  • Patent number: 4597292
Abstract: An ultrasonic transducer is adapted to transmit spherical ultrasonic waves which have a plurality of frequencies into an object under examination while being scanned in a direction at right angles to the direction of transmission. By repeating this operation, echo signals are obtained, on the basis of which a B-scan distribution image of the echo signals is obtained through use of a synthetic aperture method. Using the distribution image, there is determined position information relating to positions of interest in the object as indicated in the distribution image, as well as scanning positions of the ultrasonic transducer situated on extensions of straight lines connecting the positions of interest. The attenuation coefficient of the object is measured based on echo signals at the scanning positions.

  • Patent number: 4595021
Abstract: A blood collector includes a cylindrical body having a closed end and an open end, and a hollow body is arranged coaxially at the closed end of the cylindrical body and has a hole communicating with the interior of the cylindrical body. A columnar body is arranged within the cylindrical body to be in tight contact with an inner wall thereof, with a distal end defining a blood collection space with the closed end of the cylindrical body. Further, the columnar body has a hole which allows the blood collection space to communicate with the outside. A freeze-dried blood anticoagulant mass is placed inside the blood collection space to cover an inner surface of the closed end of the cylindrical body and to block the hole of the hollow body. A filter is arranged across the hole of the columnar body. The filter is permeable to gases and impermeable to blood at least before being brought into contact with blood in the collection space.

  • Patent number: 4592000
Abstract: An electronic clinical thermometer having a store of plural temperature prediction functions in which elapsed measurement time is a variable, each function prescribing a temperature change up to a final, stable temperature. Temperature at a specific point in time is predicted in accordance with a selected temperature prediction function based on a temperature at a specific sampling instant and elapsed measurement time up to the past sampling instant. The predicted value and a value actually measured at the specific point in time are compared to obtain a difference between them. When the difference falls outside prescribed limits, another temperature prediction function is selected, a subsequent predicted value is obtained based thereon, and the foregoing process is repeated until a difference is found which lies within the prescribed limits. When this occurs, a predicted value of the final, stable temperature corresponding to the prediction function is obtained and delivered as an output.

  • Patent number: 4560382
Abstract: In a medical container comprising a flexible vessel containing a fluid, inlet means attached to the vessel for admitting another fluid into the vessel, and an outlet, a tubular member is extended through the vessel wall as the inlet means and closed at the outer end with a plugging member to shut off the tubular member channel from the exterior and provided at the inner end with a bacterial filter, the plugging member permitting access to the tubular member channel from the exterior when the other fluid is to be admitted into the vessel. A breakable closure member is further mounted on the inner end of the tubular member to shut off the filter member from the interior space of the vessel, but is breakable to permit the communication of the interior space with the tubular member when the other fluid is to be admitted.

  • Patent number: 4537774
Abstract: Hot-water extracts of the neem bark produced by treating the bark of neem with water at a temperature from 0.degree. to 40.degree. C. and subjecting the residue from said pre-extraction treatment to extraction treatment with hot water. Purification of the extract thus produced by means of alcohol precipitation or dialysis gives products of a higher purity. Moreover, treatments prior to the pre-extraction treatment with water at 0.degree.-40.degree. C. with a non-polar organic solvent having a dielectric constant of 10 or lower and a polar organic solvent having a dielectric constant from 15 to 35 yields neem extracts of a further higher purity. The hot-water extracts of the neem bark according to the present invention possess activity against mouse L-5178Y cells and transplanted sarcoma 180 tumors.

  • Patent number: 4493708
Abstract: An intravascular catheter or cannula assembly including a catheter device having a catheter tube and a catheter hub, and a cannula device having a cannula and a cannula hub. A cannula positioning rod is securely mounted on the cannula hub through a fixing member. A stopper is securely mounted on the catheter hub to abut against the distal end of the rod, thereby regulating the projecting length of the cannula from the distal end of the catheter tube when the cannula is inserted into the catheter tube. A member having a groove is provided to prevent an axial movement of the cannula. The groove tightly and detachably receives the fixing member and the stopper thereby integrally holding the catheter device and the cannula device when they are assembled.

  • Patent number: 4479797
Abstract: A liquid medication infusion device includes a number of elongate fingers each displaceable in a predetermined sequence by associated cams driven by drive means such as a motor. A feeding tube for liquid medication, when placed between said fingers and a cap, is squeezed by the fingers to infuse liquid medication into a human body. The fingers comprise at least three fingers arranged parallel to one another with a central finger and side fingers arranged on either side of the central finger. The central and side fingers are formed integrally with a support member and are each carried at first ends by the support member in cantilevered fashion. The side fingers are shaped for squeezing the feeding tube at corresponding substantially point locations on the tube to completely collapse the tube, and the central finger is shaped for squeezing the feeding tube over a required length between the point locations for pumping the medication in the tube.

  • Patent number: 4469481
Abstract: An apparatus for infusing liquid medication such as insulin into a living body has a memory for storing a basic pattern and meal patterns which decide the medication infusion dose in accordance with time. The basic pattern is designated under ordinary conditions, with a meal pattern being designated for a predetermined period of time when desired. With the passage of the predetermined period, the basic pattern is restored, the address of the basic pattern being designated according to the actual time. When a pattern is selected, the one actually addressed and read out of the memory is that appropriate for the time of day. The pattern information read out of the memory is applied to means for infusing the liquid medication into the living body, the dose of the medication conforming to the specific pattern.
