Abstract: An embodiment includes a process for treating an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) endoleak with a shape memory polymer (SMP) foam device. First, a bifurcated stent graft is placed within the aneurysm while a micro guidewire is positioned within the aneurysm for future catheter access. Second, after placing the iliac graft extension, a catheter is introduced over wire to deliver embolic foams. Third, embolic foams expand and conform to the aneurysm wall. Fourth, embolic foams create a stable thrombus to prevent endoleak formation by isolating peripheral vessels from the aneurysm volume.

Abstract: Variants of phosphotriesterase have been created that exhibit enhanced hydrolysis of V-type and G-type nerve agents over wild-type phosphotriesterase. V- and G-type nerve agents have an SP and RP enantiomer. The SP enantiomers are more toxic. V-type nerve agents are among the most toxic substances known. Variants of phosphotriesterase can prefer to hydrolyze one enantiomer of VX over the other enantiomer.
Abstract: The present disclosure describes two click reactions to sequentially polymerize and then functionalize hydrogel microparticles to provide therapeutic agent-functionalized crosslinked hydrogel microparticles. The two click reactions have one common reactive group, and are non-interfering with respect to one another. The therapeutic agents can be released from the hydrogel microparticles over time as the hydrogel degrades, or the therapeutic agents can be released from the hydrogel microparticles by enzymatic degradation or hydrolysis. In some embodiments, the biological function of the therapeutic agents can be preserved or enhanced when covalently bound to the hydrogel microparticles. The present disclosure also provides methods for the production of hydrogel cell culture substrates. The methods overcome the hurdle of protein functionalization through the implementation of an advanced but simple chemical strategy that involves modifying a protein of interest with chemical groups (e.g.

Abstract: A method of forming polymer composites includes mixing a transition metal oxide precursor including at least one transition metal, a polymer as a binder, a solvent for the polymer, and water to form a first solution including polymer-transition metal complexes. The polymer-transition metal complexes are hydrolyzed to produce a plurality of transition metal oxide nanoparticles, wherein water is added in the mixing in a stoichiometric excess for the hydrolyzing. The solvent and residual of the water remaining after the hydrolyzing are removed. A polymer composite including the transition metal oxide nanoparticles dispersed in the polymer results after the removing, where some of the polymer is chemically conjugated to a surface of the transition metal oxide nanoparticles.
