Patent number: 5031653Abstract: Pressure gain compensation for a single-stage servovalve of the jet pipe type. The pressure gain compensation is provided by a separate reciprocally mounted spool having a feedback wire connected between the spool and the ejector jet. The spool has a differential pressure applied across the ends thereof from the receptors disposed opposed the ejector jet. Movement of the spool applies a force feedback to the ejector jet which is proportional to the pressure differential across the receptors and is opposite the force applied to the ejector by the torque motor to thereby compensate for pressure gain.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1990Date of Patent: July 16, 1991Assignee: HR Textron Inc.Inventors: Samuel L. Patent number: 5029875Abstract: An annular fluid seal is provided between a pair of spaced apart machine components, such as a rotor and a stator. The rotatable component includes an annular sealing surface of increasing diameter in a given direction (e.g., along its length or along a radially extending shoulder). An annular fibrous sealing element is disposed proximate the clearance space between the components in such a manner that a sealing portion thereof engaging the other component moves in the direction of increasing diameter as the sealing portion may wear so as to maintain sealing contact with the annular sealing surface. A fluid seal is thereby maintained between the components.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1989Date of Patent: July 9, 1991Assignee: Textron Inc.Inventors: Raymond G. Spain, Carlos Bailey

Patent number: 5016355Abstract: A chain saw having a resilient deflectable rear handle. The rear handle is connected to a housing of the chain saw at a first end and has a second end that is cantilevered. A portion of the housing is suitably sized, shaped and positioned relative to the rear handle second end to form a deflection overload constraint to prevent the rear handle from deflecting too much. The cantilevered configuration of the rear handle and its deflectability allow vibrations generated during operation of the chain saw to be reduced at an operator's grasping location on the rear handle.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1990Date of Patent: May 21, 1991Assignee: Textron Inc.Inventors: James R. Patent number: 5015948Abstract: A two wire transducer and associated circuit processes an output voltage of the transducer to produce a first signal proportional to the position of a non-contacting movable core and to produce a second signal proportional to the temperature of operation of the transducer. The associated circuit includes an excitation source or current driver which provides a fixed frequency sinusoidal constant current across the transducer coil; and first and second demodulator circuits respectively extract position and temperature signals from the voltage developed across the coil of the transducer device. Thus, both temperature and position information are provided by a single device over a single pair of leads.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1989Date of Patent: May 14, 1991Assignee: Cadillac Gage Textron Inc.Inventor: Sydney K. Patent number: 5013992Abstract: A battery charger 10 includes a microprocessor device 12 coupled to a voltage to frequency converter 18 for determining a magnitude of a voltage potential appearing across a battery under charge. The microprocessor has an output for activating a source of battery charging power when the determined magnitude of the voltage is within a predetermined range of voltages. During a charge cycle the microprocessor maintains an elapsed time counter and determines if a battery reaches full charge within 30 minutes or does not reach a full charge after 16 hours. In either case the source is deactivated. The microprocessor also determines when a battery reaches a threshold voltage after which the rate of rise of the battery voltage is compared to a predetermined rate of rise. When the measured rate of rise is less than the predetermined rate of rise the microprocessor initiates a final charge cycle wherein the battery is charged for one additional hour.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1988Date of Patent: May 7, 1991Assignee: E-Z-Go Division of TextronInventors: Jimmy N.
