  • Patent number: 3972667
Abstract: A liquid reaction mixture from which soft cellular material is derived is poured into a moving mold where it begins to expand. Beyond the point at which the reaction mixture is poured, the bottom wall of the mold is deformed between its sides and this causes the expanding mixture to flow laterally so that the mixture expands into a desired configuration. The foregoing process is carried out on a conveyor having an endless belt and rollers for deforming the upper pass of the belt between the sides thereof. The mold is a flexible film material which is supported on and propelled by the belt.

  • Patent number: 3971086
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a novel externally threaded fastener unit and the novel combination resulting from employment of said unit with an internally threaded element, such as a nut or the like, and the method of manufacture thereof. The fastener unit includes a headed screw member having a frusto-conical washer preassembled thereon and held in captive relation by the external thread form. Disposed adjacent the threaded portion of the screw member is an unthreaded neck section of a controlled cross-sectional dimension. This neck section is designed to have a dimension which is less than the minimum minor dimension of an internal thread designed in accordance with industry specified dimensions and tolerances for mating engagement with the external thread on said fastener.

  • Patent number: 3971410
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a gas pressure regulator having valve means for stopping the flow of gas downstream through the regulator when the pressure of the incoming gas is lower than a predetermined acceptable value even though acceptable pressure is subsequently restored, and a unique method and means, generally not available for use by unauthorized persons, adapted to be manually operated for resetting the valve means after it is determined that the pressure of the gas flowing to the inlet of the regulator has returned to said predetermined acceptable value.

  • Patent number: 3967875
Abstract: A terminal assembly is disclosed for effecting connection with an electrically conductive element such as a lead or antenna wire or a spade type terminal mounted to the end of such a conductor wire. The disclosed assembly comprising a screw fastener having a clamping washer mounted thereon, which fastener is engageable with an internally threaded element providing a clamping surface opposing said washer. Said washer is provided with a central aperture, an intermediate section surrounding said aperture and an axially extending clamping flange. The intermediate section of said washer includes an inwardly tapered segment which is engageable against abutment means on the fastener shank, which abutment means and the driving head on said fastener serves to limit the movement of the washer relative to the fastener shank. Accordingly, movement of the fastener relative to the support surface will produce almost immediate movement of said washer relative to said support surface.

  • Patent number: 3967669
Abstract: A self-clinching fastener and method of engagement thereof with an aperture section of sheeted material. The fastener includes a shank portion and an enlarged head, said shank portion having a tapered extruding section thereon of larger diameter than the aperture in said sheet material. The initial assembly steps resulting in said extruding section engaging and deforming a portion of the sheet material about said aperture to resize said aperture to a predetermined diameter, such that said shank will now be closely engaged with the aperture walls, and if desired the effective length of said aperture may be increased by the production of a rimmed hole. Accordingly, upon the further embedding of the fastener head into said sheet material, a portion of said material will be displaced radially inwardly to fill a relatively wide annular groove formed in said fastener shank thereby assuring a firm mechanical interlock.

  • Patent number: 3964698
Abstract: The inflatable cell portion(s) of an air cushion type undercarriage for airplanes, air cushion vehicles, or the like, of the type which are formed with air outlet openings in the ground tangent areas thereof are individually provided with air flow control devices having highly abrasive tear-resistant bottom surfaces disposed externally of the cell fabric, in lieu of the conventionally employed coverply or "wear strips". The devices of the present invention receive the ground contact abrasion and tear-inducing stresses normally imposed upon the cell fabric, and protect the latter in improved manner; and are simply snap-fitted (and thereby detachably locked) into the cell fabric apertures, and may be easily replaced as required.

  • Patent number: 3962899
Abstract: The invention contemplates low-cost and improved manufacture of an eccentric locking collar, as for use in securing a bearing ring or the like to a shaft. The locking collar is made by cold-forming a cylindrical metal blank with an eccentric cylindrical recess at one end and with a concentric cylindrical recess at the other end. A coining tool having the desired locking surface profile is inserted into the eccentric bore and is driven in axial compression causing blank material to flow or extrude around the profile. Thereafter, a punching operation completes definition of the concentric cylindrical bore which is ultimately to accommodate assembly to a shaft, and finishing steps are performed, such as set-screw adapting and tumbling.

  • Patent number: 3954229
Abstract: Vibration in the helicopter fuselage produced through the helicopter rotor at a frequency of one for each rotation of the rotor (commonly identified in the art as a one-per-rev vibration) is controlled by applying a correction signal to the primary cyclic control system of the rotor assembly. To generate the correction signal, a transducer responds to the one-per-rev vibrations to generate a signal coupled to circuitry for generating a vibration related signal dependent upon the amplitude and phase of the one-per-rev vibrations. The vibration related signal is applied to a sample and store network wherein it is demodulated by a reference signal related to the rotational speed of the helicopter to establish a control voltage which varies at a rate in dependence upon variation in the maximum amplitude of the one-per-rev vibrations. This control voltage is integrated and modulated by the reference signal thereby resulting in the correction signal for application to the primary cyclic control system.

  • Patent number: 3951715
Abstract: A slide fastener including fastener elements formed from continuous filaments of plastic material and carried by cords along inner edges of a pair of tapes, a slider having channels extending therethrough with diverging throats adjacent a diamond post in the slider, and a pair of stop members secured to the pair of tapes at the inner edges, each of the stop members engaging end abutments of the slider to limit movement of the slider and having legs extending obliquely to the inner edges of the tapes such that the legs are received in the throats of the slider when the slider is moved to close the slide fastener to prevent splay of the tapes. The cords have portions of reduced cross section between the stop members and terminal elements of the fastener elements and the slider can be assembled to receive the fastener elements after forming of the stop members by disposing the slider to receive the cord portions of reduced cross section and moving the slider along the cords away from the stop members.
