    Abstract: The present invention relates to a washing method and household appliance for textiles in a household appliance, which offers the benefit of disinfection of clothing, the washing liquid, as well as the components of the washing machine that are in contact with the washing liquid and loading clothes through the use of UV-C radiation. Disinfection can be carried out during the washing and/or rinsing step through a predetermined sequence of turning on and off the radiation source. In addition to disinfection without the need to add temperature to the water at the inlet of the washing machine or inside it, there are the benefits of greater cleaning and less damage to clothing, shorter washing time, lower energy consumption, and avoiding the use of disinfectant additives for more ecological wash cycles.
