Abstract: The present invention and its preferred embodiments relate to an article carrier which is shaped to provide satisfactory strength to hold the bottles securely but with a degree of flexibility so that the load transferred to the handle is absorbed by a carrier. The shape of the blank minimises the amount of paperboard required. The carrier can be applied to an array of bottles by hand or automatic machinery. It is anticipated that the invention can be applied to a variety of carrier and not limited to those of the basket carrier type.
Abstract: A carton has top and bottom walls that are interconnected by a pair of opposed side walls to form a tubular structure. An end closure structure is provided at each end of the tubular structure to at least partially close that end. One or each of the end closure structures includes a bottom end flap, a pair of side end flaps and a pair of web panels. The bottom end flap is foldably joined to the bottom wall and extends upwardly. The side end flaps are foldably joined respectively to the side walls and extend to each other to traverse the respective end of the tubular structure and to cover at least part of the bottom end flap. Each web panel foldably interconnects the bottom end flap and the respective side end flap and is disposed in a face-contacting relationship with the inside surface of the respective side end flap. A pair of first tear lines are formed respectively in the side end flaps. Each first tear line extends between the adjacent side wall and the adjacent web panel.
Abstract: A carton accomodating a plurality of articles, such as bottles, comprising a top (16, 26), a base (12, 30) and a pair of side walls (14, 28) interconnecting said top and base thereby forming a tubular structure, said top being provided with two spaced rows of apertures (54, 56, 58, 60, 62, 64) through which the top portions of said articles protrude and a carrying handle means (18, 20, 22) extending upwardly from said top characterised in that said handle means is located between said two rows of apertures and is off set from a plane disposed midway between said rows of apertures.

Abstract: A system for automatic inspection and ejection of cartons in a packaging machine includes detection elements (20, 22) for determining whether a carton (C) has assumed a predetermined configuration at a predetermined point in its path of travel. Carton ejection elements include rollers (30, 32) which are actuated to eject a carton (C) when the detection elements (20) determine that the carton has not assumed the predetermined configuration at the predetermined point in its path of travel. A synchronous relationship between a flow of cartons (C) and a flow of groups of articles (G) to be packaged is preserved at and as cartons leave the carton inspection and ejection station of a packaging machine.

Abstract: The invention is a binder or portfolio for carrying looseleaf paper, books, school supplies, etc. wherein the binder includes a split gusset that is attached to the front and back covers of the binder. The gusset is secured into the binder in a manner such that it is biased outwardly of the binder when the binder is opened, thereby facilitating insertion or removal of items from the binder.
