Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, a school-use backpack is provided which is similar in styling to conventional school-use backpacks, is durable, and which can be expanded to increase the interior storage volume of the backpack when additional storage space is required. In particular, the backpack of the present invention includes front, back, and side panels which define a zippered main storage compartment, two shoulder straps, and a zippered gusset which is sewn into the side panel of the backpack.
Abstract: A display package (95) for articles such as batteries includes a hollow display box in which one or more articles are secured, the box having an interconnected display face (16), end walls (22, 26) and back panel (20), and a hanging support panel (12) extending above the box and substantially coplanar with the back panel, a display window (C1) created in the display face by displacing into the hollow box a portion of the display face and a portion of the end wall, whereby the display face portion provides an internal partition (96) connecting the display face with said back panel.
Abstract: A method for producing a printing ink containing microcapsules which is suitable for application from an offset printing tower which comprises preparing a capsule slurry containing at least 45% by weight total solids and mixing the slurry under high shear with a printing ink vehicle containing not more than 15% by weight oil.
Abstract: The invention provides a day planner for holding calendar pages, papers, notes, cards, etc., which includes a separate compartment for holding photographs. More particularly, the present invention provides a day planner that has front and back covers that are attached to a central spine. The interior of the day planner is partitioned by a divider into a pair of compartments, one of which includes a binder for securing calendar pages, notes, addresses, etc. and the other of which includes a plurality of photo album pages. Additionally, fasteners are provided for keeping each compartment closed and for securing the contents of each compartment in the planner.
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a heat resistant friction material which comprises forming pores in the surface of the friction material, the pores being formed with a controlled pore size, depth, pattern, orientation and distribution.

Abstract: A substantially pear-shaped case (30) for an audio device (20), such as a compact disc player, and headphone set (10), the case (30) formed of a base (32) with side walls (34) extending therefrom to form a compartment tapering inwardly terminating in a narrowed portion distal the base (32). In combination, the audio device (20) is disposed in substantially upright condition in the compartment of the case (30) while the headphones (10) lie in an inverted substantially upright position with the ear speakers (12) lying in an upper narrowed portion (37) of the case and the curved connecting member (14) arranged in a U-shaped configuration lying in cooperative nesting position with the audio device (20) adjacent the base (32) of the case (30).
Abstract: A set-up basket style article carrier has a bottom panel, first and second opposed sidewalls attached to the bottom panel, riser panels, a handle attached to the riser panels, transverse partition straps extending between the riser panels and sidewalls, and tapered end panels attached to the riser panels. A blank for the article carrier has a bottom panel, a sidewall joined to the bottom panel along a horizontal fold line, a handle assembly panel joined to the sidewall along a horizontal fold line, a tapered end panel joined to the sidewall along a vertical fold line and to the handle assembly panel along horizontally extending fold lines, and a riser panel joined to the end panel along a fold line offset from vertical to accommodate taper in the tapered end panel.
Abstract: For storage of storage media (22), a sleeve (10) having one or two storage pocket (20) formed between an optional substrate (16) and two cover plates (18). The sleeves (10) in turn may be mounted on a spine (12) having a plurality of vertebrae (56) connected by flexible hinges (60). The sleeves (10) mount on respective vertebrae (56) by slidable insertion of mounting slots (54) onto mounting tracks (58). The flexible hinges (60) then permit easy user access to and review of the storage media (22) contents of individual sleeves (10) in an intuitive roll-and-tumble manner. The sleeves (10) and the spine (12) may in turn also be stored in a clam-shell style case (88) or a wallet style case (108), or loose sleeves (10) may be stored in a tray (118).

Abstract: A carton formed from sheet material for containers such as cans or bottles includes a top wall, a pair of side walls, and a bottom wall interconnected to complete a tubular structure. A notional strip defined along the top wall extends between the end edges of the top wall, and has a width less than the distance between said the side edges of the top wall. A pair of finger apertures are defined in the top panel and disposed along one side of the notional strip, while a thumb aperture is defined in the top panel and disposed along an opposite side of the notional strip. The pair of finger apertures define therebetween a bridge of the sheet material, with the thumb aperture being disposed substantially across the notional strip from said bridge.
Abstract: An article cradle (20) formed from a one-piece blank (10) has a bottom wall (22) and adjoining end (24) and side (40) walls. The end walls (24) have end wall flanges (26) extending therefrom. The side walls (40) have side wall flanges (46) extending therefrom. The end wall flanges are elongated and extend above (29) and below (28) the respective top and bottom edges of the end walls (24). The side wall flanges (46) are slightly elongated extending above (49) the top edges (48) of the side walls (40). The end walls and end wall flanges interlock with the side walls and side wall flanges to form an article compartment inwardly spaced from the outermost edges of the flanges.
Abstract: A basket-style article carrier (10) with straight, non-stepped side walls (26, 72) and end walls (52/86, 112/122) wherein partition portions containing cell-forming partition straps (34a, 34b, 64a, 64b) are struck from a multiple-ply handle structure and are adhered to a central support member (104) which is also struck from the multiple-ply handle structure. The multiple-ply handle structure which includes handle panels (44, 46, 94, 96) lie within the perimeter of the side wall and end structure panels of the blank (16) for forming the carrier.
