    Abstract: Embodiments relate to a Gaussian synapse device configured so that its transfer characteristics resemble a Gaussian distribution. Embodiments of the Gaussian synapse device include an n-type field-effect transistor (FET) and p-type FET with a common contact so that the two FETs are connected in series. Some embodiments include a global back-gate contact and separate top-gate contact to obtain dual-gated FETs. Some embodiments include two different 2D materials used in the channel to generate the two FETs, while some embodiments use a single ambipolar transport material. In some embodiments, the dual-gated structure is used to dynamically control the amplitude, mean and standard deviation of the Gaussian synapse.     Abstract: Embodiments relate to use of graphite nanoplatelets (GnP) to enhance the mechanical and durability characteristics of cement that may be used as cement sheaths in wellbores of oil and gas wells. Generally, undesired permeability of cement is caused by diffusion of trapped oil and/or natural gas through the cementitious matrix of the cement, leading to material degradation of the cement. Methods disclosed involve using modified GnPs (having physically modified surfaces or chemically modified surfaces energies) to generate a cementitious nanocomposite with uniformly dispersed GnPs, which can effectively arrest the undesired diffusion mechanism. Modified GnPs can also increase the strength of interfacial adhesion (e.g., interfacial bonds and interfacial energies) between the GnP and the cement matrix (e.g., hydrations of the cement). Physical modification of GnP can involve non-covalent treatment techniques. Chemical modification of GnP can involve covalent treatment techniques.

    Abstract: Alkylresorcinols (ARs) are a homologous series of natural phenolipids extracted from rye bran which have shown antioxidant activity in bulk oils and oil-in-water emulsions. This application is directed to their use in low-moisture foods using crackers as a model system. ARs (153 ?mol) inhibited lipid oxidation reactions based on delayed formation of primary and secondary products of lipid oxidation compared to a control treatment, and were more effective than ?-tocopherol. The antioxidant activity of ARs of compound of Formula (I) increased as alkyl chain length increased, with optimum activity at alkyl chain length C23:0. There was no effect of alkyl chain length on rate of AR loss. ARs are effective antioxidants in low-moisture foods likely due to their hydrophobic nature, which allowed them to localize in the lipid phase, the purported site of lipid oxidation in the model cracker system.
