Abstract: The present disclosure provides nucleic acid compositions that incorporate one or more halouracil molecules. More specifically, the present disclosure reveals that the replacement of uracil nucleotides within a microRNA nucleotide sequence with a 5-halouracil increases the ability of the micro-RNA to inhibit cancer progression and tumorigenesis. As such, the present disclosure provides various nucleic acid (e.g., microRNA) compositions having 5-halouracil molecules incorporated in their nucleic acid sequences and methods for using the same. The present disclosure further provides pharmaceutical compositions comprising the modified nucleic acid compositions, and methods for treating cancers using the same.

Abstract: Methods and devices for transmitting and receiving data through biological tissue using ultrasonic pulses are described. Methods of the present invention may set an initial time-hopping frame length and an initial spreading code length for data transmission. A request-to-transmit may be sent from a transmitter over a control channel at the initial frame and code length. The receiver may respond to the transmitter with a clear-to-transmit packet having feedback information. The feedback information can be used to improve a forward time-hopping frame length and a forward spreading code length. Embodiments of the invention may involve a body area network or body surface network comprising a plurality of implanted sensor nodes operating according to the disclosed invention.

Abstract: Presented are RNA nucleotide sequences referred to as EXO-Codes, and longer RNA polynucleotides that contain the EXO-Codes. EXO-Codes provide RNA with the ability to a) be selectively sorted to extracellular vesicles such as exosomes, and b) deliver a variety of cargo types to program or reprogram the extracellular vesicles, and cells that receive the exosomes. Also presented are methods of making the EXO-Codes, modifying cells using the EXO-Codes, expression vectors encoding the EXO-Codes, and exosomes and other secreted vesicles that include RNA polynucleotides that contain the EXO-Codes.

Abstract: Microphones, microphone systems, and methods for capturing and processing sound are described. The microphones and microphone systems may adaptively change the direction from which sound is captured. The microphones and microphone systems avoid the need to provide arrays of microphones, while providing adaptive beamforming without a time delay between each channel of information, and multi-directional sound capture. A dependency between the frequency response and system size is also avoided.

Abstract: SphericRTC provides real-time 360-degree video communication, which allows the viewer to observe the environment in any direction from the camera location. This more allows users to more-efficiently exchange information and can be beneficial in the real-time setting. The system selects representations of 360-degree frames to allow efficient, content-adaptive delivery. The system performs joint content and bitrate adaptation in real-time by offloading expensive transformation operations to a GPU. The system demonstrates that the multiple sub-components: viewport feedback, representation selection, and joint content and bitrate adaptation, can be effectively integrated within a single framework. Compared to a baseline implementation, views in SphericRTC have consistently higher visual quality. The median Viewport-PSNR of such views is 2.25 dB higher than views in the baseline system.

Such systems and methods provide for separately storing first, second, third, and fourth photons, wherein the first and second photons and the third and fourth photons are respective first and second entangled photon pairs, triggering a synchronized retrieval of the stored first, second, third, and fourth photons such that the first photon is propagated to a first node, the second and third photons are propagated to a second node, and the fourth photon is propagated to a third node, and creating a new entangled pair comprising the first and fourth photons at the first and third nodes to transmit quantum information.

Abstract: Tapered scintillator modules and detection devices having tapered scintillator modules in at least the end that contacts an optical sensor where the taper depends on the location of the scintillator module within the active area of the optical sensor is provided. Tapering of the scintillator modules may be close to the interface between the optical sensor and the module to minimize light leak to neighboring pixels at the interface while still allowing the detection device to retain high geometric efficiency and sensitivity to incident gamma rays since the distal end may not be tapered, which has a highest probability for gamma ray interaction based on Beer-Lambert law for photoelectric absorption.

Abstract: A system associated with predicting segmentation quality of segmented objects implemented in the analysis of copious image data is disclosed. The system receives a collection of image data related to a particular type of data. The image data is segmented into segmented data portions based on an object associated with the collection of image data. Regions of interest associated with the segmented data portions are determined. The quality of segmentation of the segmented data portions is determined for respective classification of the regions of interest. A classification label is assigned to the regions of interest. Regions of interest are partitioned into sub-regions. Features associated with the sub-regions of the segmented data portions are determined. A training dataset is generated based on the determined features associated with the sub-regions in order to train a classification model based on a predetermined threshold value.
