Abstract: Methods for marking a consumer good at a distribution point are described that enable field authentication of the consumer good at an authentication point without connection to a remote database. Methods for authenticating a marked consumer good are described by scanning encrypted indicia without connecting to a remote database are described. Authentication methods for marked consumer goods, apparatus for carrying out the authentication methods, and systems based on the authentication methods are described.

Abstract: A data carrier provides health related information regarding a patient, and facilitates compliance with HIPAA by the obscuring the association between the name of the patient and the health related information when the data carrier is to be discarded. The data carrier includes a release liner, a health information label having an upper surface and a lower surface, the label including a first area on the upper surface for indicia specifying health related information and a second area on the upper surface for indicia specifying the identity of a patient, and a pressure sensitive adhesive coating on the lower surface of the health information label, securing the health information label to the release liner. A masking label is either integral with the health information label, or the liner.

Abstract: An in-mold labeling system includes a molding apparatus having a first mold half and a second mold half that opposes the first mold half, the mold halves defining at least one mold cavity contained within a cavity wall. The in-mold labeling system further comprises a polymeric label receptor fixed to at least a portion of the cavity wall of the at least one mold cavity. The polymeric label receptor has a tacky contact face facing the inside of the at least one mold cavity when the molding apparatus is in the closed position. During a molding process, the tacky contact face of the polymeric label receptor receives a mold-side face of a label. The label is held in position against the tacky contact face during the molding process by surface tension between the mold-side face of the label and the tacky contact face of the polymeric label receptor.

Abstract: A security document includes a substrate, and an imaging thermal coating on at least a portion of the surface of the substrate for thermal printing on the security document. The imaging thermal coating is soluble in one or more solvents. A warning message is printed on the substrate in an ink which is substantially insoluble in the one or more solvents. An obscuring coating on the substrate covers the warning message such that the warning message is not apparent to an observer. The obscuring coating is soluble in the one or more solvents, such that the obscuring coating is removed from the substrate if the document is subjected to washing with the one or more solvents to remove printed images on the imaging thermal coating. By this arrangement, an attempt to alter the security document by washing the security document with the one or more solvents is made apparent.

A fold line extends substantially transverse to the side edges and substantially bisecting them, and dividing the sheet into first and second portions. An adhesive pattern on the first face of the sheet, adjacent at least one of the first and second end edges, secures the first and second portions together adjacent the first and second end edges. An obscuring coating and a camouflage image are provided on the first face of the sheet. Variable indicia are printed on the obscuring coating, and are not legible when viewed by an observer who separates the first and second portions while the first and second portions remain secured together adjacent the first and second end edges. The obscuring coating may comprise a multi-layer, thermochromic coating.

Abstract: A document uses a chemically reactive security ink to facilitate security, making it more difficult to alter a genuine security document. The chemically reactive security ink masks a warning word or message on a security document. The hidden warning word or message is revealed when the document is subjected to chemical washing.

Abstract: An erasable marker board assembly includes a metal backing panel, a pre-printed poster and a transparent panel. The pre-printed poster bears unchanging information, and defines areas for additional information to be written by hand with an erasable marker. A transparent panel overlies the poster and provides a top surface upon which the additional information may be written with an erasable marker. The transparent panel may comprise a panel of glass or a panel of transparent acrylic material. A plurality of releasable fasteners secure the metal backing panel, the pre-printed poster, and the transparent panel together.

Abstract: A business form includes a paper carrier sheet having an upper surface and a lower surface, a barrier layer on an area of the upper surface of the paper carrier sheet, a silicone coating extending over the barrier layer, and a label assembly. The label assembly includes a label ply and a pressure sensitive adhesive coating. The label assembly is secured to the silicone coating and to the upper surface of the carrier sheet by the pressure sensitive adhesive. The label ply has a die cut through it that defines a label portion and a lip portion. The label portion is secured only to the silicone coating, and the lip portion is secured to both the silicone coating and to the upper surface of the carrier sheet. When the business form is printed with a printer, such as a laser printer, the form moves through the printer in an orientation in which the lip portion leads the label assembly. This results in the label portion being less likely to be removed from the carrier sheet inadvertently.

The printable face ply has an upper surface and a lower surface, and a pressure sensitive adhesive on at least a portion of the lower surface. The face ply may include first and second adjacent portions, with the first portion of the face ply die cut to form a detachable wristband having first and second ends and an upper and a lower surface, with pressure sensitive adhesive on the lower surface of the detachable wristband adjacent the first and second ends, and with the second portion of the face ply die cut to form the series of detachable labels. The first portion of the face ply is also die cut to form an extender band having first and second ends and an upper and a lower surface, with pressure sensitive adhesive on the lower surface of the extender band adjacent the first and second ends.

Abstract: A labeled article, a method of making the labeled article, and a label for use in such method, contemplate the manufacture of an article having an article body made of a moldable material, and a label, integral with the article body and having an outer label surface coplanar with the outer article body surface. The label is inserted into the mold and molded into place as the article body is molded. The label has an outer film ply defining the outer label surface, a printable sheet ply inward from said outer film ply, and an adhesive layer between the outer film ply and the printable sheet ply. The outer film ply has a length and a width greater than the length and width of the printable sheet ply. The outer film ply extends beyond the printable sheet ply adjacent all edges of the printable sheet ply and shields the printable sheet ply from exposure to the environment surrounding the labeled article.

Abstract: A document which may be a security document has a thermochromic coating which may be a thermochromic ink on the substrate of the document. The ink may include several thermochromic materials which transition from various different colors to substantially clear in appearance as the ink is warmed to various temperatures. The combination of the colors of the thermochromic materials can give the document a different color at a number of different temperatures, until the coating is warmed to the highest color change point. When at or above the highest color change temperature, the coating becomes substantially transparent and the printed area assumes the color of the underlying substrate. The coating may also include non-reactive materials of yet another color that mixes with the colors of the thermochromic materials.

The document data entry device is in communication with the digital controller. The document report generator is in communication with the digital controller. The digital controller is programmed to cause characteristic document data indicative of the characteristics of each of a plurality of selected documents to be received, compare the characteristic document data for each document to migration data metrics which specify the characteristic document data of documents that can appropriately be assigned to one of a plurality of migration categories, save the identities of the documents having characteristic document data that meet document data specified by the migration data metrics for the one of the plurality of migration categories, and enable the document report generator to generate a migration report.

The label comprises a printable sheet having at least one invisible IR or UV image, or both, printed thereon, at least one visible image printed thereon, and an over-coating layer thereon. The invisible IR or UV image, or both, provide security information. The visible image provides the graphic image. The label is permanently fused by an in-mold molding process to an article made of plastic, rubber or the combination thereof to render it tamper proof.

The label comprises a printable sheet having at least one RFID device thereon, and an outer layer thereon. The RFID device provides security and/or tracking information for the labeled article. The label may further include at least one visible image printed thereon. To provide additional layers of security, at least one invisible IR or UV image, or both, may also be printed on the printable sheet to provide security and/or tracking information. The visible image provides the graphic image. The label is permanently fused by an in-mold molding process to an article made of plastic, rubber or the combination thereof to render it tamper proof.

A release ply has an upper surface and a lower surface, with a release coating on the upper surface. The transparent ply is removably mounted on the upper surface of the release ply by the pressure sensitive adhesive coating. A die cut in the transparent ply defines an elongated wristband. An opaque coating is provided on the upper surface of the transparent ply in a central portion of the elongated wristband. A die cut in the transparent ply defines an overlaminate label that is sized to cover at least a part of the central portion of the elongated wristband, thereby covering indicia printed on the opaque coating. A paper ply may also be mounted on the release ply by pressure sensitive adhesive. The paper ply defines a plurality of labels that may be printed at the same time as the wristband.
