Abstract: A method for enhancing charge carrier mobility of a field-effect transistor device. The method comprises generating uniaxial nanogrooves on a substrate and blade coating a solution comprising a semiconducting polymer onto the substrate. The polymer solution is spread onto the substrate in a direction parallel to the nanogrooves and a main-chain axis of the polymer is parallel to the nanogrooves. The semiconducting polymer can be then annealed, so that a polymer film is formed which is layered on top of the substrate, with polymer chains aligned parallel to a direction of charge carrier movement.

Abstract: Methods of forming antimicrobial resin compositions comprising silver nanoparticles are disclosed. Such methods generally comprise: combining a silver-containing material with a resin in situ in the presence of a silver-binding compound; and curing the resin. Antimicrobial polymeric resin compositions formed by said methods have a lighter color than control compositions and also display a slower release of silver ions over time.

Abstract: A method of making an electrically conductive cotton material by incorporating conductive poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) films into a base cotton substrate by drop casting or dip coating. Unlike most conventional methods that have typically included the use of templates such as metal oxide, carbon and/or silica nanoparticles, the polymerization of PEDOT:PSS in this method is not template-assisted. The amount of PEDOT:PSS used in the fabrication process controls the conductivity and sheet resistance of the conductive cotton material, and can be varied by the number of repeated drop casting or dip coating cycles.
Abstract: The present invention provides methods, processes, and systems for the manufacture of three-dimensional articles of polymer materials using 3D printing. A syringe or an inkjet print head prints a solution of prepolymer onto a build plate. The printed prepolymer is exposed to a stimulus whereby the prepolymer is converted to the polymer. After a predetermined time, sequential layers are printed to provide the three-dimensional article. The three-dimensional article can be cured to produce the 3D article made from the final polymer.

Abstract: Separators of multiple types capable of supplying and diffusing fluids such as an anode gas, cathode gas and coolant uniformly are prepared and combined to construct a fuel cell stack. Such a cell stack (20) for fuel cells includes separators of at least two types (types CA, C, A, C, CW and AW) for anode gas and cathode gas. Each separator is such that a corrosion-resistance layer is formed on at least one face of a metal plate (30) and a fluid supply and diffusion layer for the corresponding gas is formed by an electrically conductive porous layer on the corrosion-resistant layer. The at least two separators are stacked so as to face each other with at least an electrolyte membrane and catalyst layers on both sides of the membrane (a new membrane electrode assembly N-MEA) being sandwiched between the fluid supply and diffusion layers of the separators.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods, processes, and systems for the manufacture of three-dimensional articles made of polymers using 3D printing. A layer of prepolymer is deposited on a build plate to form a powder bed. The deposited powder bed is heated to about 50° C. to about 170° C. Then, a solution of activating agent is printed on the powder bed in a predetermined pattern, and a stimulus is applied converting the prepolymer to the final polymer. After a predetermined period of time, sequential layers are printed to provide the three-dimensional article. The three-dimensional object can be cured to produce the three-dimensional article composed of the final polymers.

Abstract: A method of detecting a target and quantifying the concentration of the same within a sample includes generating a plurality of fractionated volumes, wherein at least some of the fractionated volumes contain the target bound to a first detector molecule connected to a first reaction component (R1) and a second detector molecule connected to a second reaction component (R2). The fractionated volumes that contain the target, first detector molecule, second detector molecule, and a probe or other reporter molecule emit light and are imaged. Fractionated volumes emitting radiation can be used to detect the presence of the target within the sample. The number of fractionated volumes emitting a positive emission signal can be counted from the image and the concentration (or range of calculations) of the target can be calculated based at least in part on the number of fractionated volumes emitting a positive emission signal from the image.
