Abstract: The inventors have determined, contrary to the prior art and experience, how to successfully use triciribine to treat tumors and cancer by one or a combination of (i) administering triciribine only to patients which according to a diagnostic test described below, exhibit enhanced sensitivity to the drug; (ii) use of a described dosage level that minimizes the toxicity of the drug but yet still exhibits efficacy; or (iii) use of a described dosage regimen that minimizes the toxicity of the drug.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides adaptive methods for gas chromatography analysis of a gas sample comprising one or more target analytes (such as a micro-gas chromatography) and adaptive gas chromatography devices for carrying out such analytical methods. Broadly, the system can regulate flow into a downstream chromatographic column by detecting one or more upstream conditions. For example, one adaptive chromatography device comprises a first column, a modulator component, and a second column. A first detector or sensor detects the presence of target analytes upstream from the second column, while a second detector detects the presence of target analytes eluted from the second column. The modulator component assembly is responsive to an output generated by the first detector and adaptively regulates fluid flow into the second column. Such adaptive chromatography (micro-GC) systems have higher separation speed, better analyte identification capability, and far greater energy savings.

Abstract: The present invention relates to multi-phase self-stratifying coating systems, and in particular, to multi-phase self-stratifying coating systems having a substantially homogeneous composition of polymeric binder components that upon application and cure generates a multi-phase stratified coating wherein each phase is rich in a different polymeric binder component and wherein individual phases are separated by a diffuse interface, such that the stratified coating exhibits a gradient behavior wherein a given interface exhibits the attributes of the polymeric binder component that is rich at that interface, and wherein at least one phase is rich in a polymeric binder having a telechelic resin with reactive internal groups, reactive end groups, and an alkoxide oligomer, and at least one other phase is rich in a polymeric binder having a fluorinated polymer derived from fluorinated vinyl-based monomers.
Abstract: Disclosed are compositions comprising collagen covalently bound to particles, wherein covalent bonds are formed between reactive groups of the collagen and reactive groups of the particles, and wherein the particles have an average particle diameter ranging from 20 to 1000 nanometers. Also disclosed are various methods that utilize the compositions.

Abstract: The present invention provides technology that uses current measurements to identify nucleotides and determine a nucleotide sequence in polynucleotides. The present invention calculates a modal value of a tunnel current that arises when a nucleotide or polynucleotide for analysis passes through between electrodes, and then employs the calculated modal value. The present invention accordingly enables direct rapid implementation to identify nucleotides and to determine a nucleotide sequence in a polynucleotide without marking.

Abstract: The method to obtain accurate vertical component estimates in 3D positioning provides a closed-form least-squares solution based on time-difference of arrival (TDOA) measurements for the three-dimensional source location problem. The method provides an extension of an existing closed-form algorithm. The method utilizes the full set of the available TDOA measurements to increase the number of nuisance parameters. These nuisance parameters are range estimates from the source to the sensors, which the method uses for delivering accurate estimates of the vertical component of the source's location, even when quasi-coplanar sensors are employed.
Abstract: A method for communicating data between peripheral devices and an embedded processor that includes receiving, at a data buffer unit of the embedded processor, the data from a peripheral device. The method also includes copying data from the data buffer unit into the bridge buffer of the embedded processor as a bridge buffer message. Additionally, the method includes creating, after storing the data as a bridge buffer message, a peripheral device message comprising the bridge buffer message, and sending the peripheral device message to a thread message queue of a subscriber.
Abstract: An embodiment in accordance with the present invention provides a device and method for collecting cord blood from the umbilical cord and placenta. The device includes a vascular access device, a portable tray container, and a perfusion pump device. The vascular access device includes two vascular access components (VACs) that clamp onto the umbilical cord at the time of delivery to accurately guide cannulation of the vein. After clamping on the VACs, the placenta and VACs are placed into the portable tray container. The portable tray container is a closable and disposable container which features a dock for accepting the VACs and impaling the umbilical vein for vascular access. The dock is also connected to perfusate and collection bags, located on the outside surfaces of the tray. The tray and perfusate and collection bags interfaced with the perfusion pump device to flush out and collect the stem cells from the umbilical cord and placenta.
