  • Patent number: 6271792
Abstract: An antenna has a relatively thick primary dielectric between a ground plane and a conducting radiating element being fed by a conducting transmission line, first and second thin dielectrics on opposite sides of the primary dielectric, the relatively thick primary dielectric having a relatively lower dielectric constant than that of at least the second thin dielectric to increase the bandwidth transmission capability of the transmission line for a given impedance, the second thin dielectric couples substantially less power than is coupled with the primary dielectric and the second thin dielectric is of relatively higher dielectric constant promoting surface wave coupling and reduction of wave losses.

  • Patent number: 6272021
Abstract: The present invention provides a circuit device which insures highly-reliable electrical connections even when used in environments involving large temperature variations, and which can be easily assembled. Board assembly (10) has a housing (50) which is mounted on an edge (150) of a circuit board (100). Edge (150) includes protruding sections (160) on which a plurality of contact pads (180) are aligned. The housing (50) accommodates the protruding sections (160) inside slots (52), which are formed inside the housing (50). Reinforcing sections (55) are disposed on both sides along the lengths of the slots (52). A connector, which engages with a mating connector, is formed by the protruding sections (160) and the housing (50). Since the edge (150) of the circuit board (100) is maintained in a substantially flat-plate shape even in cases where deformation caused by heat occurs in other portions of the circuit board (100), highly reliable electrical connections with mating connectors can be realized.

  • Patent number: 6262631
Abstract: A power transistor with an integrated linearizer is provided in a package having only standard transistor terminals. The linearizer arranged between the base and collector of the transistor uses a Schottky diode as a nonlinear device that compensates for gain and phase deviations of the transistor. A collector voltage source that supplies power to the transistor provides bias to the diode. A DC blocking capacitor isolates an RF path between the input and output of the transistor from a diode biasing circuit to allow the collector voltage source to provide bias to the linearizer and the transistor separately. A tuning inductor is coupled in series with the DC blocking capacitor to offset the undesired phase rotation introduced by the capacitor. A DC biasing resistor is coupled between the diode and the collector of the transistor to set bias current supplied to the diode and isolate the collector voltage source from the RF path and ground.

  • Patent number: 6253082
Abstract: In a wireless communications system, upon making a decision to roam, the mobile chooses an alternate communications channel in a prioritized manner and evaluates the chosen channel for whether it is able to support a data link interconnection. Upon evaluating that a chosen channel is able to support a data link connection, the chosen channel is selected as the next best alternate channel on which to attempt a data link establishment procedure. The channels are chosen from a set of possible channels in an order including a home channel, an in area channel, and then any of the possible channels. Advantageously, the selection of the next best alternate channel provides increased probability of establishing and maintaining a data link over the selected channel as well as providing a certain amount of control communications traffic flow in the system.
