  • Patent number: 6227899
Abstract: A modular telephone-style plug features a substantially three sided intermediate section which integrally connects the cable receiving end with the contact mating end of the plug. The intermediate section has an opening which spans virtually all of the fourth side of this section. The resultant three sided intermediate section provides for a reduced dielectric constant in the interior space in which the critical conductor transition from jacketed cable to contact termination occurs. This produces lower crosstalk and higher data propagation to allow this modular plug to be capable of a higher frequency for data transmission. The intermediate section features an expanded interior to lower crosstalk between twisted pairs of conductors over a wide range of data transmission rates. The intermediate section's expanded interior space permits greater freedom in the placement and relative positioning of any conductor pair to any other conductor pair.

  • Patent number: 6109949
Abstract: A connector comprises a header having a plurality of contacts mounted thereon in such a manner that the post portions thereof protrude outwardly, and a socket having mounted thereon a plurality of contacts for contacting with the respective post portions of the header and being electrically connected thereto. The socket further has a plurality of guide grooves for receiving the respective post portions of the header thereinto and guiding them to the corresponding contacts of the socket. The guide grooves form slots thin enough to be broken when receiving the post portions thereinto or sufficiently narrower than the width of the post portions. Those regions of the contacts of the socket which contact with the post portions are provided so as not to be exposed outwardly of the socket.

  • Patent number: 6076234
Abstract: A cable tie includes an elongate generally planar strap and a head. The head includes a tapering entrance into a passageway therethrough for inserting the strap and a flexibly hinged locking pawl adjacent the passageway. The head also includes a fixed locking tooth adjacent the entry end of the passageway for engaging the strap after full securing an article or articles to be bundled. The fixed locking tooth of the present invention is desirably positioned to allow unobstructed insertion of the tail through the head. The present invention is able to minimize the stretching of the strap body when adjacent to the locking pawl by providing an edge which frictionally engages the strap body as the strap body egresses from the passageway of the head. Furthermore, the present invention may include a pair of counter-rotatable locking elements positioned to one side of the passageway through the head.

  • Patent number: 6077093
Abstract: A cover is employed with an edge mount electrical header connector to secure the header connector to a printed circuit board during soldering. The header connector includes plural electrical contacts supported in an insulative housing. The contacts include extending solder tails for engagement with solder pads of the printed circuit board. The cover includes an elongate insulative body for attachment to the header connector. The body of the cover includes gripper arms extending therefrom and being in spaced opposition to the extending solder tails. The solder tails and the gripper arms form a space therebetween for receiving an edge of the printed circuit board. The gripper arms and solder tails retain the printed circuit board edge so as to permit secure soldering of the solder tails to the solder pads of the printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 6074121
Abstract: A vibration-tolerant torque limiting fastening lug whereupon tightening of the set-screw produces a parasitic torque at the thread plane defining the set-screw/housing interface. The resultant parasitic torque acts in opposite direction to the installation torque such that the actual torque below the thread plane is less than the installation torque. As a result, the tensile force experienced by the set-screw and which acts against the housing of the lug is reduced.

  • Patent number: 6053751
Abstract: The electrical connector assembly includes a female connector portion which is mountable to a first printed circuit board, such as a motherboard, and a male connector portion which is mechanically and electrically connected to a second printed circuit board, such as a daughterboard. The female connector portion includes a plurality of signal contacts arranged in two rows having a ground terminal, or conductive elastomer, positioned between the rows of signal contacts. The male connector portion preferably includes a flexible circuit having a solid groundplane separated by an dielectric insulator from an electrical trace thereon. The distance separating the groundplane from the trace and the width of the trace controls a characteristic impedance of the flexible circuit for matching to specific circuit requirements of the daughterboard and motherboard.
