  • Patent number: 9832486
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for improved entropy encoding and decoding. An apparatus includes a video encoder (200) for encoding at least a block in a picture by transforming a residue of the block to obtain transform coefficients, quantizing the transform coefficients to obtain quantized transform coefficients, and entropy coding the quantized transform coefficients. The quantized transform coefficients are encoded using a flag to indicate that a current one of the quantized transform coefficients being processed is a last non-zero coefficient for the block having a value greater than or equal to a specified value.

  • Patent number: 9830553
Abstract: A code book is generated for mapping source to target code words which allows encoding source data at reduced probability of incorrect decoding, e.g. for DNA storage. The target code words are grouped (102) into subsets and comprise identifying and remaining portions. The identifying portions of target code words corresponding to a same subset are identical. A first code symbol set of source code words is selected (103) for addressing the subsets. For the subsets, neighboring subsets are determined (104). The identifying portions of the target code words of neighboring subsets differ from those of the corresponding subset by up to a predetermined amount of symbols. Source code words are assigned (105) where the corresponding first code symbols address the same subset to said subset such that an amount of target code words of said subset having their remaining portions identical to their neighboring subsets corresponds to an optimization criterion.

  • Patent number: 9830491
Abstract: A particular implementation selects two or more fiducial markers to be embedded into a video to convey information. Specifically, the translation, scaling and rotation between a reference marker and a secondary marker can be used to transmit information. When more information needs to be embedded, more secondary markers can be used. The transformation between the fiducial markers can also evolve over time as the information to be embedded evolves over time. At the receiving side, a reader device captures a video including multiple fiducial markers and determines the translation, scaling and rotation between the fiducial markers. Based on the transformation of the fiducial markers, the reader device can retrieve the information embedded in the captured video by the fiducial markers.

  • Patent number: 9818199
Abstract: Method and apparatus for estimating the depth of focused plenoptic data are suggested. The method includes: estimating the inherent shift of in-focus pixels of the focused plenoptic data; calculating a level of homogeneity of the pixels of the focused plenoptic data; determining the pixels of the focused plenoptic data which either have disparities equal to the inherent shift or belong to homogeneous areas, as a function of the level of homogeneity of the pixels of the focused plenoptic data; and estimating the depth of the focused plenoptic data by a disparity estimation without considering the determined pixels. According to the disclosure, the pixels of the focused plenoptic data which either have a disparity equal to the inherent shift or belong to a homogeneous area will not be considered for the estimation of the depth, which can reduce computational costs and at the same time increase accuracy of estimations for in-focus parts of the scene.
