Abstract: There are provided a moving image coding apparatus and moving image decoding apparatus which allow efficient decoding of an interlaced image from the coded data of a progressive image, and methods for the apparatuses. Noninterlaced moving image data is input from a moving image data input unit (101). Two consecutive frames are discriminated by a switch (102). A line interleaving unit (103) then generates new image data by alternately arranging the line data of the respective frames upon changing the order. A discrete wavelet transform unit (104) performs two-dimensional discrete wavelet transform for this image data to decompose it into seven subbands. Each subband is then coded.

Abstract: An automatic surveying system is provided that comprises a surveying device, a collinear-line calculating processor, a sighting direction control processor, and an object-point searching processor. The collinear line calculating processor obtains a collinear line for an arbitrarily designated point on a schematic image of which the positional relation to the surveying device is known. The sighting direction control processor controls the surveying device to sight along the collinear line. The object point searching processor searches for an object point where the position of the object point can be determined as a point on the collinear line. This is executed by measuring the sighting direction with the surveying device while carrying out the sighting direction control process. Further, a position obtained by the object point searching processor coincides with an object point that corresponds to the designated point.

Abstract: A starter motor is prevented from being rotated together with an engine after the start of a engine. When motor speed exceeds the cranking speed after the start of the engine, a speed judging section 36 judges that the starter motor is rotated together with the engine. A current-supply stopping section 38 commands to stop energizing a motor 3a in response to the judge. After the electricity supply is stopped, if the rotation speed is reduced to a value close to the cranking speed, judging section 36 outputs a signal to cancel the current-supply stopping commands from the current-supply stopping section 38. The detection of the motor speed is also continued even after the ignition, and if the speed is further increased, the speed detection is stopped. If the speed is increased to a value showing complete explosion, the speed judging section 36 switches the relays to a generator.

Abstract: By separating a function responsible for a control plane and a function responsible for a user plane into physically independent devices, a radio access network system, in which expandability and flexibility of a network is enhanced, is obtained. In the radio access network (RAN) system, the RAN is so designed that a server responsible for the control plane (CPS) and a server responsible for the user plane (UPS) are physically separated from each other. In response to an external request, a logical connection is set between the CPS and the UPS. For identification of the logical connection, mapping between a mobile unit or a radio bearer and the logical connection is managed using a logical connection ID. Thus, the CPS and UPS can independently be added or removed in a system configuration, thus enhancing the scalability of a mobile communication system.

Abstract: If the grids of a color conversion table are simply downsampled, the way ink is used (the manner of the changeover in the value of a CMYKlclm signal) differs from that color conversion table before downsampling, there is a shift in the starting point of dark ink at the point of changeover of continuous tone ink, and a decline in image quality ascribable to downsampling of the color conversion table tends to occur. Accordingly, an original LUT is read in, a parameter for selecting a grid to be downsampled is set, a table of evaluation values for selecting a grid to be downsampled is created, a grid capable of being downsampled is selected by referring to the evaluation-value table, and table data that does not contain this grid is copied.

Abstract: A recording head has a subtank. The amount of ink remaining within the subtank is detected or calculated by a device, and the amount of ink necessary for an image of at least one recording sheet is calculated by another device. The two amounts of ink are compared. If it is determined that the ink remaining within the subtank is smaller, the recording head is moved to an ink replenishing mechanism provided outside of a printing range of a recording apparatus. The subtank mounted in the recording head is connected to the ink replenishing mechanism, and ink is supplied from the main tank. Ink replenishment is executed by a system for supplying ink using a pressurizing device or a negative-pressure device. By executing an operation of wiping ink adhering to a nozzle portion of the recording head and preliminary discharge not relating to printing after a recovery operation for the recording head, it is possible to realize stable ink discharge and obtain a high-quality image.

Abstract: An optical element of the present invention comprises a fluorite substrate 1, and a lanthanum fluoride film 2 formed directly on the substrate 1. The substrate 1, on which the lanthanum fluoride film 2 is formed, has a plane which is a (111) plane or a plane inclined by an angle within ±30 degrees, preferably within 15 degrees from the (111) plane. Therefore, the lanthanum fluoride film undergoes the crystal growth subjected to the C-axis orientation on the optical substrate. Since the lanthanum fluoride film is dense and has a small surface area, it scarcely involves the oxidation and hydroxylation areas as well as the structural defect. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the optical loss of the optical element in the vacuum ultraviolet region.

Abstract: The object is to prevent occurrence of packet loss in Cellular IP and a drop of TCP throughput due to duplication of packets. On the occasion of relaying a packet from correspondent, a relay router multicasts a router advertisement to access routers forming respective cells into which a target mobile terminal might move. The mobile terminal receives the router advertisements from the neighbor access routers, calculates a difference between reception times of the packets from the respective access routers, and specifies a relay router to perform multicasting. Then the mobile terminal transmits delay information of a delay to be added to each path in multicasting by the relay router, to the relay router thus specified. The relay router adds the delay to each path in multicasting on the basis of the delay information.
