  • Patent number: 6042309
Abstract: A tool bit for a tube end squaring tool includes a cutting edge produced by machining or grinding a hook radius in the tool bit stock on the entrance angle side of the cutting edge and an undercut portion within the hook radius just rearwardly of the cutting edge on the work entrance side thereof to cause separation from the hook radius area of metal chips parted from a metal workpiece by the cutting edge to reduce friction and workpiece metal buildup on or adjacent the cutting edge. The undercut configuration reduces manufacturing costs of the tool bit which otherwise would require additional finishing operations to obtain the same reduction of friction at the cutting edge area.

  • Patent number: 6038947
Abstract: A tool feed module for a portable lathe machine tool includes a tool block carrying a cutting tool driven by a feed screw incrementally advanced during a cutting procedure by an actuator arm contacting a striker device located on the tool housing. The actuator arm drives the feed screw through an actuator shaft and a one-way drive device permits the actuator arm to pivot in opposite directions while driving the feed screw in increments during pivotal motion in a single direction. To enable reverse rotation of the feed screw and withdrawal of the cutting tool to a starting position rapidly, the actuator shaft is connected to the one-way drive device through a releasable connection that permits rotation of the drive screw by the actuator shaft independently of the one-way drive device.

  • Patent number: 5429021
Abstract: A machine tool for resurfacing seats surrounding non-circular openings in members, such as elliptical manways, includes a housing adapted to be mounted in the opening, and a tool bit carried by a slide mechanism mounted on the housing for rotation about a central axis. The slide member is resiliently biased outwardly to urge a tracker wheel into engagement with an inner surface of the opening, whereby the tool bit is constrained to follow the contour of the non-circular opening as it moves across the seat during a resurfacing operation. Movement of the tool bit across the surface being refaced is achieved by a feed screw driven from a feed sprocket that engages a tripper pin upon each revolution of the tool about the central axis.

  • Patent number: 5368399
Abstract: An adjustable roller bearing assembly adapted for use in a machine tool includes an elongated support bolt that rotatably supports a radially extending roller bearing, and a bushing adapted to be positioned within a bore of a support member and to which the bolt member can be threadably secured. The bushing includes an outer cylindrical portion adapted to be snugly received within a bore of a support member and a cylindrical through hole through which the bolt extends. The outer cylindrical surface of the bushing is eccentric with respect to a central longitudinal axis of the bushing so that the roller bearing and its associated support bolt can be radially adjusted relative to the support member by rotation of the bushing within the bore. The bushing is a one piece integrated sleeve, flange and threaded connector so that only the support bolt and bushing are needed to both clamp the bearing on the support and radially adjust the bearing position relative to the support.
