Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for causing a stunt switcher to run a multi-video-source digital-video effect (DVE). An example method involves (i) selecting a first log-entry from a traffic log, wherein the first log-entry corresponds to a first video-component (VC) and a first start-time; (ii) selecting a second log-entry from the traffic log, wherein the second log-entry corresponds to a multi-video-source DVE, and a second start-time; (iii) causing the first VC to start being channeled through the stunt switcher proximate the first start-time; (iv) making a determination that a threshold time-period remains before the second start-time; and (v) responsive to making the determination, (a) causing a second VC to start being sent to the stunt switcher, and (b) causing the stunt switcher to run the multi-video-source DVE, thereby causing the stunt switcher to output a combined video, wherein the combined video includes the first VC and the second VC.

Abstract: In one aspect, a method includes: receiving an instruction to apply a particular digital video-effect (DVE) of a particular DVE type to a temporal portion of a video segment based, at least in part, on the temporal portion of the video segment being suitable for having a DVE of the particular DVE type applied thereto, wherein the particular DVE corresponds to a duration; making a determination that no particular temporal portion of the video segment satisfies each condition in a set, the set comprising (i) a first condition that the particular temporal portion of the video segment has been identified as being suitable for having a DVE of the particular DVE type applied thereto, and (ii) a second condition that the particular temporal portion of the video segment is of at least the duration; and based, at least in part, on the received instruction and the determination, outputting an alert.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for transmitting data to a device based on an entry of a rundown for a news program. An example method involves: a first device recording a packet stream transmitted from a second device to a third device; identifying a first packet having a final portion of a first data block, wherein a second packet is next after the first packet; determining a time period between transmission of the first and second packets; using the recorded packet stream to generate another packet stream; identifying a third packet that includes a final portion of a second data block corresponding to the first data block, wherein a fourth packet is next after the third packet; and transmitting the generated packet stream to the third device, wherein transmitting the generated packet stream to the third device involves: transmitting the third packet and following at least the determined time period after transmitting the third packet, transmitting the fourth packet.

Abstract: Systems and processes are disclosed for providing a video output of a subset of an encoded video file. In one example, a process includes accessing an encoded video file that includes an initial frame and scanning the encoded video file for a start frame of a video clip. This process can also include decoding the video clip of the encoded video file to generate decoded video data corresponding to the video clip and populating memory with the decoded video data. Further, the process can include setting a playout pointer that indicates a location in the memory populated with the decoded video data and corresponding to the start frame of the video clip. In addition, the process can include causing a video player to read, beginning at the playout pointer, from the decoded video data in the memory so as to output, via an output port of the video playout card, a video stream of the video clip.
