Abstract: Presently described are systems and methods for identifying a mute/sound attribute of an audio sample set having first-channel samples and second-channel samples. An embodiment takes the form of a method that includes: (i) receiving the audio sample set; (ii) for each first-channel sample, determining a first max amplitude and a first min amplitude; (iii) calculating a first span based on a first function of the first max amplitude and the first min amplitude; (iv) for each second-channel sample, determining a second max amplitude and a second min amplitude; (v) calculating a second span based on a function of the second max amplitude and the second min amplitude; and (vi) identifying the audio sample set as having a sound attribute if both the first span and the second span are greater than a min-volume threshold.

Abstract: An example method involves: (i) accessing data representing a news program schedule that specifies a sequence of events to be carried out using a news production system, wherein the schedule is divided into contiguous portions; (ii) for each portion: determining that m media servers are sufficient to execute any events of that portion and associated with a first device, allocating m media servers to the first device, thereby leaving one or more unallocated media servers, and allocating n media servers, from the unallocated media servers, to a second device; and (iii) for each of the contiguous portions, utilizing at least a portion of the allocated m media servers to carry out the events specified in that portion and associated with the first device and utilizing at least a portion of the allocated n media servers to carry out the events specified in that portion and associated with the second device.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for causing a stunt switcher to run a multi-video-source digital-video effect (DVE). An example method involves (i) selecting a first log-entry from a traffic log, wherein the first log-entry corresponds to a first video-component (VC) and a first start-time; (ii) selecting a second log-entry from the traffic log, wherein the second log-entry corresponds to a multi-video-source DVE, and a second start-time; (iii) causing the first VC to start being channeled through the stunt switcher proximate the first start-time; (iv) making a determination that a threshold time-period remains before the second start-time; and (v) responsive to making the determination, (a) causing a second VC to start being sent to the stunt switcher, and (b) causing the stunt switcher to run the multi-video-source DVE, thereby causing the stunt switcher to output a combined video, wherein the combined video includes the first VC and the second VC.

Abstract: In one aspect, an example method for outputting an alert indicating a functional state of a back-up audio-broadcast system involves: a computing device receiving a first audio-stream that represents first audio-content; the computing device generating a first signature based, at least in part, upon an extent of single-channel/multi-channel transitions included within the first audio-content; the computing device receiving a second audio-stream that represents second audio-content; the computing device generating a second signature based, at least in part, upon an extent of single-channel/multi-channel transitions included within the second audio-content; the computing device making a determination that the generated first-signature and the generated second-signature lack a threshold extent of similarity; and responsive to the determination that the generated first-signature and the generated second-signature lack the threshold extent of similarity, the computing device outputting an alert.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for transmitting data to a device based on an entry of a rundown for a news program. An example method involves: (i) a first device recording data transmitted from a second device to a third device; (ii) assigning an identifier to the recorded data; (iii) selecting an entry from a rundown including entries indicative of a sequence of events related to a news program; (iv) making a determination that the selected entry is associated with the assigned identifier; and (v) responsive to making the determination, causing the recorded data to be transmitted to the third device.

Abstract: A method and system to facilitate localized replacement of one or more commercials or other instances of base content in a video feed with replacement-media delivered in a separate broadcast TV transport stream. A local TV station that broadcasts to an area covering a video program distributor (VPD) includes supplemental content, such as replacement commercials, within its broadcast in a manner that standard broadcast-TV receivers would disregard but that a equipment at the VPD will receive and process. The equipment at the VPD thus receives the local broadcast from the TV station and extracts from the broadcast the included supplemental content. And equipment at the VPD inserts the extracted supplemental content in place of one or more instances of base content in a transport stream that the VPD receives separately from a video-program source, so as to establish a modified transport stream for delivery to end-user TV receivers.

Abstract: Presently described are systems and methods for newsroom management with electronic-publish-point integration. One example embodiment takes the form of a non-transitory computer-readable medium containing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause a set of steps to be carried out for submitting content to an electronic publish point. The set of steps includes providing a newsroom script to a user via a user interface; receiving a selected portion of an on-air text portion of the newsroom script from the user via the user interface; and retrieving, from a media database, media associated with the newsroom script. The set of steps further includes submitting content to the publish point, wherein the content includes text associated with the selected portion of the on-air text portion, and wherein the content further includes the retrieved media.

Abstract: In one aspect, an example method involves accessing first data representing a program schedule of a media program; making a determination that first text of the program schedule matches second text displayed by a teleprompter, where a portion of the media program was recorded proximate a time when the second text was displayed; using the first text of the program schedule as a basis to select a portion of the program schedule; and responsive to at least the determination, storing data indicative of a correlation between (i) the selected portion of the program schedule and (ii) the recorded portion of the media program. An example method involves (i) accessing a stored traffic log, wherein the log includes multiple ordered log entries including a first log-entry and a second log-entry; (ii) making a first determination that the first log-entry corresponds to a show-segment video-component (VC) of a live show, wherein the first log-entry further corresponds to a broadcast time-period; (iii) making a second determination that the second log-entry is positioned immediately after the first log-entry; (iv) making a third determination that the second log-entry corresponds to a manual start-time type; and (v) responsive to making the three determinations, enabling functionality of a trigger mechanism during the broadcast time-period, wherein the enabled trigger mechanism is configured to cause processing of a next log entry in the log in response to being triggered.

An example method can include decoding a first encoded video file and populating a memory with corresponding first decoded video data. The process can include decoding a second encoded video file and populating the memory with corresponding second decoded video data at a particular location of the memory. The process can include causing a video player to read from the memory so as to output a video stream, via the single physical output, corresponding to the first decoded video data, and then causing the video player to switch to read from the particular location of the memory such that the video stream switches to corresponding to the second decoded video data.
