  • Patent number: 8306551
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention recite a method and system for limiting the functionality of a mobile electronic device. In one embodiment, a position determining component disposed within the mobile electronic device is used to determine the speed of the mobile electronic device. It is then determined that the speed of the mobile electronic device exceeds a speed threshold. Based upon determining that the speed of the mobile electronic device exceeds the speed threshold, the functionality of said mobile electronic device is restricted.

  • Patent number: 8306836
Abstract: A computer implemented method and computer system for management of materials on a construction site. In one embodiment, at least one cost scenario is defined for moving at least one material with a vehicle pool. A status of a project which uses the material is then determined. A report is generated which identifies a vehicle of the vehicle pool and defines a load of the material which is to be moved by the vehicle from a first location to a second location.

  • Publication number: 20120274772
Abstract: Novel tools and techniques for monitoring railway track geometry. In one aspect, some such tools and techniques can determine a location of a platform along a railway, capture one or more images of the railway, and/or analyze the rail configuration at that point. In another aspect, some solutions might employ photogrammetric techniques to analyze the rail configuration and thereafter store data about the rail configuration, perhaps correlated with the location of the images, in a data store.

  • Patent number: 8296571
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention recite a method and system for implementing export control for a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver. In one embodiment, a GNSS receiver is used to determine the geographic position of an electronic device. It is then determined that the geographic region corresponds to an exclusion zone. In response to determining that the geographic region corresponds to the exclusion zone, accessing data from the electronic device is prevented.

  • Patent number: 8295411
Abstract: Embodiments of the present technology recite a method and system for maintaining integrity of a binary offset carrier (BOC) signal. In one embodiment, a first correlator is configured for multiplying a timing signal with an internally generated pseudo-random noise (PRN) signal to create a reference signal. The first correlator is further configured for combining the reference signal with a received PRN signal and outputting a first correlation function based upon the combining. A second correlator is configured for multiplying the internally generated PRN signal with the received PRN signal and for outputting an integrity correlation function. A comparison component is configured for determining the offset of the reference signal relative to the received PRN signal based upon a comparison of the integrity correlation function with the first correlation function.

  • Patent number: 8281495
Abstract: A two-dimension layout system identifies points and their coordinates, and transfers identified points on a solid surface to other surfaces in a vertical direction. Two leveling laser light transmitters are used with a remote unit to control certain functions. The laser transmitters rotate about the azimuth, and emit vertical (plumb) laser planes. After being set up using benchmark points, the projected lines of the laser planes will intersect on the floor of a jobsite at any point of interest in a virtual floor plan, under control of a user with the remote unit. The laser light planes also project lines that will intersect along the ceiling at a point that is truly plumb above the crossing point on the floor. The laser planes also provide an “implied” plumb line that is projected in space, which is visible along a solid vertical surface to between the intersecting floor and ceiling points.

  • Patent number: 8279112
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are described which are useful for determining a distance between an RFID tag and an RFID tag reader. In various embodiments, signals backscattered from a singulated tag over a range of frequencies are evaluated for in-phase I and in-quadrature Q signal components. The I-Q data is processed to determine phase delay angles associated with each signal frequency. The phase delay data can be processed by a sum of squared errors method or Fourier transform method to determine a distance to the singulated tag. The methods can also be used to determine any of a location, a radial velocity, a directional velocity of the singulated tag, and proximity of the singulated tag to a second tag.

  • Patent number: 8260551
Abstract: In a method for refining a position estimate of a low earth orbiting (LEO) satellite a first position estimate of a LEO satellite is obtained with a GNSS receiver on-board the LEO satellite. The first position estimate is communicated to a Virtual Reference Station (VRS) processor. VRS corrections are received at the LEO satellite, the VRS corrections having been calculated for the first position estimate by the VRS processor. The VRS corrections are processed on-board the LEO satellite such that a VRS corrected LEO satellite position estimate of the LEO satellite is generated for the first position estimate.

  • Patent number: 8260322
Abstract: A method for determining coverage gaps within a geographical area served by a wireless communication network includes: (a) receiving a location report from each of a plurality of mobile units; (b) storing all location reports received from the mobile units in a database; and (c) searching the database for a position within the geographical area at which an acceptable quality wireless signal has not been received. The location report may include a measured signal quality metric of the wireless link, which may be the signal strength of the wireless link, a bit error rate of the wireless link, or both. Location reports may be displayed on a map to show coverage quality and gaps. Statistical technique and quantitative techniques can be applied on the signal quality metrics reported.

  • Patent number: 8242955
Abstract: Embodiments provided herein recite methods and systems for an accuracy estimator for a position fix. In one embodiment, a solution receiver for receiving a code solution and at least one additional solution from a different solution technique is utilized. In addition, a table of metric values comprising an associated accuracy estimate for at least one characteristic of each of the code solution and the at least one additional solution is also utilized. A comparator compares the code solution and the at least one additional solution with the table of metric values. In addition, a solution orderer orders the at least one additional solution above or below the code solution dependent on whether the at least one additional solution is within a pre-defined offset distance threshold. If the at least one additional solution is outside of the distance threshold, the code solution is chosen as the final solution.
