Patent number: 5590491Abstract: An operator for controlling pivoting of a window sash relative to a window frame including dual arms which pivot relative to one another to move the window sash. A drive input pivotally drives a drive member which is eccentric about its pivot axis, where the drive input includes recesses spaced from the input pivot axis and engageable by a user's fingers to manual pivot the drive input. A drive ring gear is pivotable relative to the drive member and includes two axially spaced sets of gear teeth. The dual arms are secured to separate ring gears which are respectively associated with the two gear teeth sets. The drive ring gear is moved eccentrically relative to the pivot axis by the eccentric drive member whereby at least some of the teeth of the first set of drive ring gear teeth are disengaged from the teeth of its associated arm ring gear and at least some of the teeth of the second set of drive ring gear teeth are disengaged from the teeth of its associated arm ring gear.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1994Date of Patent: January 7, 1997Assignee: Truth Hardware CorporationInventor: Stephen M. Patent number: 5582442Abstract: A latch assembly and process for manufacturing such an assembly and process for painting an assembly with a pivoting member are disclosed. The latching assembly comprises a body, a latch moveable between open and closed positions, and a thumb turn mounted for pivotal movement in the body. The thumb turn includes a cylindrical boss mounted for rotation in the body about a central axis of rotation, and a lever arm extending radially outwardly from the central axis of rotation of the cylindrical boss to a free end exposed outside of the body. A plurality of resilient arms having free hook ends engage the cylindrical boss to hold the cylindrical boss in the body while allowing for rotational movement of the cylindrical boss with pivotal movement of the lever arm. The free hook ends are held in a separate position which prevents rotational movement during the painting step of the manufacturing process.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1995Date of Patent: December 10, 1996Assignee: Truth Hardware CorporationInventor: Douglas A. Patent number: 5560082Abstract: A window operator handle foldable between an operable position for manual pivoting and a storage position, including a body with a manually graspable portion at one end and a recess in the other end, and a base including a longitudinal cylindrical portion having a central bore extending completely through the base. The handle body recess is defined by side walls spaced a selected width, a top wall, and a wall at one end oriented substantially parallel to the operator drive shaft when the handle is in the operable position, with the base cylindrical portion having an outer diameter slightly less than the selected width. An operator drive shaft is securable in the base bore so that the an outer end of the drive shaft is substantially adjacent the handle body when the handle is in a storage position. The handle base is secured for pivoting relative to the handle body about an axis substantially orthogonal to longitudinal whereby in the storage position the base is substantially within the handle body recess.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1994Date of Patent: October 1, 1996Assignee: Truth Hardware CorporationInventor: Gregory J. Patent number: 5531045Abstract: A window operator and lock structure for controlling a window sash relative to a window frame, including a drive input securable to a frame and engaging both an operator linkage securable to a window sash to effectuate motion of a secured sash relative to a frame, and a lock linkage securable to a lock structure for locking a secured sash to a frame. A link in the lock linkage moves in a generally longitudinal direction when operating the lock structure and includes a substantially transverse slot. A cam is pivotable about a cam axis fixed relative to the frame and includes a member receivable in the link slot to block operation of the lock linkage. The sash when closed against the frame includes a member engaging the cam to pivot the cam in a first direction moving the cam member clear of the link slot. The cam is blocked from pivoting when the sash is closed by engagement of the cam member with a side surface of the lock linkage link.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1995Date of Patent: July 2, 1996Assignee: Truth Hardware CorporationInventor: Stephen M. Patent number: 5531138Abstract: A housing assembly for a window operating assembly having a drive shaft and drive shaft boss having recesses on opposite sides thereof. The housing assembly includes a cover having a top side with an opening therethrough and sides depending from the top side to define an interior and an exterior. The cover is open on the interior for receiving a portion of the window operating assembly including a drive shaft boss portion with a portion of the drive shaft extending through the top side opening to the exterior. The depending sides having outer edges mateable with a window operating assembly to maintain alignment of the cover with a substantial portion of the operating assembly housed by the cover. A discrete connecting member is secured to the cover interior and includes an oblong opening with a narrow portion having a radial dimension less than that of the drive shaft boss.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 1994Date of Patent: July 2, 1996Assignee: Truth Hardware CorporationInventor: Gregory J.
