  • Patent number: 6257615
Abstract: An impact protection device for motor vehicle drivers includes a steering wheel, an air bag module and a module cover. The steering wheel, the air bag module and the module cover each form a separate assembly unit. Two mounting studs project from the module cover towards the steering wheel. The module cover and the air bag module are connected to the steering wheel by means of the mounting studs. The mounting studs are attached to the steering wheel. Fastening means are provided on the end of each mounting stud. A washer of insulating material, a coil spring and a mounting flange of the module cover are clamped between the flange of the mounting stud and the fastening means. Support for an electrical switch contact is embedded in the washer of insulating material and a mass contact of an electrical switch is provided on the mounting flange of the module cover.

  • Publication number: 20010005075
Abstract: The invention relates to a vehicle occupant restraint system, comprising a gas bag module which has a front side, a side face and a rear side. The gas bag module further comprises a pot-shaped module cover having a first peripheral wall and an accommodation housing having a second peripheral wall. The module cover and the accommodation housing define a space for accommodating a gas bag as part of the module. The first and second peripheral walls are connected with each other by a latching connection and at least one of the peripheral walls defines the side face. A mounting body for the gas bag module in the form of a hub pot of a vehicle steering wheel is provided. The mounting body is disposed so close to the side face that it laterally supports the laterally outer one of the first and second peripheral walls upon opening of the gas bag module and secures the latching connection.

  • Patent number: 6244620
Abstract: The invention relates to a steering wheel for motor vehicles, the steering wheel comprising a steering wheel axis, a skeleton surrounded by a foam casing, and an airbag module. The airbag module has a generator support connected with the skeleton and a covering cap fastened to the generator support. The covering cap is designed as an actuating device for generating a horn signal. At least two recesses are provided in the foam casing of the steering wheel skeleton and on the generator support insert pins are provided corresponding to the recesses. The pins have axes aligned parallel to the steering wheel axis. Further, the pins serve for centering the covering cap relative to the foam casing of the steering wheel skeleton in a plane perpendicular to the steering wheel axis.

  • Patent number: 6227327
Abstract: A steering device for a motor vehicle, with an actuating member for the introduction of the steering movement and with a steering linkage to transfer the steering movement to the wheels. The device is characterized in that the actuating member consists of a “steering wheel” (1) which is rotatable about a small angle and of a measured value transmitter (2) to generate an electrical or electronic position signal, and that the steering linkage is actuated by an adjustment drive which is controllable by an electrical or electronic regulating device as a function of the position signal.
