  • Publication number: 20180130315
Abstract: Method for synchronizing a non-symmetrical tonal pattern in a wireless alerting system involves receiving at a plurality of alerting devices a beacon message. The beacon message is used at the alerting devices to synchronously generate a synchronization pulse signal comprised of a plurality of synchronization pulses which are periodic in accordance with a predetermined synchronization pulse interval. A cadence section indicator (CSI) in the beacon message is used in combination with the synchronization pulse signal to determine a portion of an alarm cadence to sound at each of the alerting device so that the alarm cadence is synchronized among the plurality of the alerting devices.

  • Patent number: 9959748
Abstract: The system and method provide for the monitoring and trending the rate at which fire detection devices get dirty. This information is used to determine which devices are clogged or getting clogged and to establish that the chambers are open to air flow because they are accumulating dirt over time. Air flow through the detection chamber is proven using this analysis. Further self-testing is also employed for the fire detection devices by including modules that simulate the smoke interference with the light. This can be accomplished in two ways. In one example, light from the chamber light source can be reflected toward the scattered light photodetector to simulate alarm conditions. In another example, an additional chamber light source can be added to the detection chamber that can generate light to simulate alarm conditions.

  • Patent number: 9948113
Abstract: Systems (100) and methods (500, 600) for adaptively managing power for an Energy Harvesting System (“EHS”). The methods involve: measuring a light intensity level available in a surrounding environment; wirelessly communicating a first wireless signal from the EHS (100) to a remote device (700) for causing the light intensity level to be increased by remotely turning on a light source (106, 108) or opening a cover preventing light emitted from the light source from reaching the EHC, when the light intensity level is below a pre-specified level; using an Energy Harvesting Circuit (“EHC”) to recharge a rechargeable battery (310) when the light intensity level rises above the pre-specified level; and wirelessly communicating a second wireless signal from the EHS to the remote device for causing the light source be turned off or the cover to be closed, when the capacity or state-of-charge of the rechargeable battery reaches a pre-specified value.

  • Patent number: 9931660
Abstract: Coat-in-place assemblies and methods to provide an aesthetically pleasing sprinkler assembly. A coat-in-place assembly includes a sprinkler body having a proximal portion and a distal portion, a thermally responsive trigger disposed adjacent the distal portion; and an escutcheon centered about the distal portion of the sprinkler body to define a void between the sprinkler axis and the escutcheon. A coating-inhibiting-cap encloses and protects the thermally responsive trigger between the sprinkler body and the cap. The cap extends into the void and is radially spaced inward relative to the escutcheon so as expose surfaces of the escutcheon for coating.

  • Patent number: 9931648
Abstract: Apparati for generating a mist are disclosed. One apparatus is disclosed, which has an elongate hollow body (12) and an elongate member (14) located within the body (12). A transport fluid passage (16) and a nozzle (32) are defined between the body (12) and the elongate member (14). The transport fluid passage (16) has a throat portion of reduced cross-sectional area and is in fluid communication with the nozzle (32). The elongate member (14) includes a working fluid passage (26) and one or more communicating openings, such as for example, bores, annuli, and combinations thereof, (30) extending radially outward from the working fluid passage (26). The openings (30) permit a working fluid (e.g. water) to be passed into the transport fluid passage (16), whereupon the working fluid is subjected to shear forces by a high velocity transport fluid (e.g. steam). The shearing of the working fluid results in the generation of a mist formed from droplets of substantially uniform size.
