  • Patent number: 9824245
Abstract: Methods, systems and devices for providing an interrogation signal from a handheld deactivation device for identifying a security tag. Identifying the security tag includes initiating an interrogation signal, wherein the interrogation signal includes plurality of transmission bursts and a plurality of random time periods to wait between transmission bursts such that a unique time period elapses between each of the plurality of transmission bursts. The interrogation signal is then transmitted by transmitting each of the plurality of transmission bursts for a portion of a duty cycle and interrupting transmission between each of the plurality of transmission bursts for one of the plurality of random time periods such that a unique and random time period elapses between each of the plurality of transmission bursts. The period transmission of the interrogation signal provides for improved battery life of a handheld scanning and deactivation device.

  • Patent number: 9824559
Abstract: Optical data transceiver is used to illuminate a secured space with an optical data signal which has been modulated to contain a first data sequence. One or more retroreflected optical data signals are received at the optical data transceiver from reflector elements disposed in the secured space. The retroreflected optical data signals are authenticated and a security event notification is selectively communicated to an enterprise security management controller if a variation occurs in regard to at least one retroreflected optical beam condition. The variation can involve a disruption of the optical beam and/or a displacement of the optical beam.

  • Patent number: 9803401
Abstract: Systems (100) and methods (1000) for operating a Security Tag (“ST”). The methods involve rotating a Rotational Clip (“RC”) of ST (132) towards a Housing Base (“HB”) of ST until RC (406) contacts a latch (610) disposed within HB (404), where an article resides between a first pad (602) fixedly coupled to RC and a second pad (604) movably coupled to HB. An angled surface (626) of RC slides against an angled surface (624) of the latch so as to cause compression of a cap spring (614) and a latch spring (612). The cap spring is disposed in HB such that a center axis (818) thereof is perpendicular to a center axis (816) of the latch spring. When the latch becomes aligned with an aperture (628) formed in the rotational clip, the latch travels into the aperture as result from a pushing force applied thereto by the latch spring.

  • Patent number: 9793947
Abstract: A method and system are described for providing a wireless sensor network between a main node and a plurality of nodes, the nodes associated with sensors. The method and system define communications channels over which the main node communicates with the nodes based on a channel hopping scheme, and define at least one transfer channel that is dedicated to carrying transfer frames that are broadcast by the main node. The method and system configure non-acquired nodes that are not acquired to the network to enter a connection session by locating the at least one transfer channel to listen for a transfer message. The transfer message indicates a next communications channel that will become active. The method switches the non-acquired nodes to the next communications channel.

  • Patent number: 9781745
Abstract: A method and system are described for providing a wireless sensor network between a main node and a plurality of nodes, the nodes associate with sensors. The method and system define communications channels over which the main node communicates with the nodes based on a channel hopping scheme pattern, and define at least one transfer channel that is dedicated to carrying transfer frames that are broadcast by the main node. The method and system configure non-attached nodes that are not attached to the network, to enter a connection session by tuning to the transfer channel to listen for a transfer message. The transfer message indicates a next communications channel. The method tunes the non-attached nodes to the next communications channel, listens for a beacon frame, and utilizes the beacon frame as a timing reference to enable the non-attached nodes to attach to the network.

  • Patent number: 9778343
Abstract: Systems (100) and methods (600) for determining a location of an object within space. The methods comprise: generating Inertial Reference Measurement Data (“IRMD”); reading RFID inventory tags by an RFID reader; processing IRMD to determine an RFID reader orientation and position estimates at a time of each RFID inventory tag read; defining cones associated with each RFID inventory tag; mapping the cones to a model; analyzing the model to identify a set of cones which overlap each other and are associated with reads for a respective RFID inventory tag; and deriving a position estimate for the respective inventory tag based on intersecting portions of the cones in the set of cones. Each cone has: a vertex which is the RFID reader position estimate at a respective time; and an angle which is in inverse proportion to a signal strength of a signal received from a respective RFID inventory tag.

  • Patent number: 9767679
Abstract: According to systems and methods for testing alarm initiating devices of a fire alarm system, a control panel of the fire alarm system is placed into test mode. Then, during a walkthrough test, an inspector activates an inspector-activated mechanism of a device. This sends a test mode signal to the control panel, which places the device into a test mode. The inspector or inspector then manually activates the device. The control panel initiates a fire alarm condition in response to a received device signals while the control panel not initiating a fire alarm condition when the device signals are indicative of a fire if the device signals were from alarm initiating devices in the test mode. Alternatively, the control panel places a group of alarm initiating devices into test mode on a rolling basis. As the inspector tests the devices, additional devices are added to the group and previously tested devices are returned to normal operation mode.

  • Patent number: 9734683
Abstract: Systems (100) and methods (800) for operating a pin tag. The methods comprise: moving a first structure with a flange in a first direction; and sliding a chamfered surface of the flange against a chamfered surface of a second structure so as to move the second structure in a second direction away from the first structure. The second direction is angled relative to (e.g., perpendicular to) the first direction. Thereafter, the second structure is resiliently biased towards the first structure when the first structure has moved a certain distance in the first direction to a first position. The first structure is retained at the first position through an engagement of the second structure with the flange which is resiliently biased towards to the second structure in a third direction opposed from the first direction.
