  • Patent number: 6370274
Abstract: A diagnostic system includes an image acquisition unit (1), an image coding and recording unit (2) and an image information retrieval unit (9). The image acquisition unit (1) acquires moving-image information relating to an object (3) to be examined which information represents a series of images that succeed one another in time. The image coding and recording unit (2) includes a first coding unit (4) for converting the series of images into a first data stream in accordance with first conversion rules optimised for the compression of moving-image information, and a second coding unit (6) for converting the series of images into a second data stream in accordance with second conversion rules optimized for the compression of still-image information. The average amount of information per coded image is smaller for the first coding unit (4) than for the second coding unit (6).

  • Patent number: 6368921
Abstract: A trench-gate semiconductor device, for example a MOSFET or IGBT, of compact geometry is manufactured with self-aligned masking techniques in a simple process with good reproducibility. The source region (13) of the device is formed by introducing dopant (63) into an area of the body region (15) via a mask window (51a), diffusing the dopant to form a surface region (13b) that extends laterally below the mask (51) at a distance (d) beyond the masking edge (51b) of the window (51a), and then etching the body (10) at the window (51a) to form a trench (20) for the trench-gate (11) with a lateral extent (y) that is determined by the etching of the body (10) at the masking edge (51b) of the window (51a). A portion of the surface region (13b) is left to provide the source region (13) adjacent to the trench (20).

  • Patent number: 6370490
Abstract: In determining an intrinsic spectrum from a measured spectrum using the Maximum Entropy Algorithm, it is hardly or even not at all practical to determine the eigenvalues of an N×N matrix of large dimensions (N of the order of from 104 to 105). According to the invention such a large matrix is subdivided into a large number of much smaller partial matrices that are located on the diagonal or trace of the large matrix. The set of eigenvalues to be determined then consists of all eigenvalues of the partial matrices which can be determined much faster. Because of the Toeplitz-like character of the partial matrices, their eigenvalues can be determined very fast by Fourier transformation of a single row of such a matrix. Using the set of eigenvalues thus obtained, the intrinsic spectrum is determined by means of a minimizing algorithm.

  • Patent number: 6370400
Abstract: A telephone includes circuits that enable a user of the telephone to receive incoming calls and set up outgoing calls. A controller puts the telephone interface in a blocking state to prevent normal use of the telephone when the interface receives a block signal, and puts the interface in a service state to make the telephone accessible. The telephone has a timing circuit that supplies the block signal to the controller after a given period of inactivity of the telephone to place the telephone in the blocking state. An erroneous unblocking code used a predetermined number of times puts the telephone in a state of total block which includes a power cut of the telephone. Turning on the telephone allows leaving the total block state.

  • Patent number: 6369572
Abstract: Gradient pulses are generated in an MRI apparatus by a control circuit in which disturbing influences are liable to occur; consequently, the gradient current pulses are not shaped exactly as prescribed by the input signal on the input (33) of the control circuit. This effect can be counteracted by feedback, but some deviations still remain because of a variety of capacitive and/or inductive elements (3, 51) in the control circuit. These deviations cannot be sufficiently corrected because of the limited bandwidth in the control circuit. According to the invention the control circuit is provided with a feed forward loop (57) which includes a filter (61, 63) whose filter characteristic is the inverse of the impedance characteristic of a component (3, 51) conducting the gradient.

  • Patent number: 6368915
Abstract: In a method of manufacturing a semiconductor device comprising a non-volatile memory element, an active region 4 of a first conductivity type is defined at a surface 2 of a semiconductor body 1, and a patterned layer is applied, which patterned layer acts as a mask during the formation of a source zone 11 and a drain zone 12 of a second conductivity type in the semiconductor body 1. Then, a dielectric layer 14 is provided in a thickness which is sufficiently large to cover the patterned layer, which dielectric layer 14 is removed over part of its thickness by means of a material removing treatment until the patterned layer is exposed, which patterned layer is removed, thereby forming a recess in the dielectric layer 14.

  • Patent number: 6370117
Abstract: The invention relates to a resource allocation method and system making use of a dynamically controlled boundary policy to satisfy the quality of service parameters guaranteed by the system for two traffic classes (a constant bit rate traffic, and a bursty data one also called VBR traffic) having to share a communication channel divided into frames. The boundary position (BP) between the traffic sub-frames and hence the allocation decision itself are defined by a resource allocator (23) for each frame, after monitoring the filling level of traffic request queues (21, 22).

  • Patent number: 6366573
Abstract: A method of transmitting messages in an answer-back paging system in which a primary station (10,14,16) transmits a series of messages addressed to respective secondary stations (20) on a down-link. The primary station then invites the secondary stations to transmit their responses, for example as CDMA signals, on an up-link. On receipt the primary station analyses those responses which are deemed to be intelligible, matches them to the originally transmitted messages and transmits acknowledgements to the relevant secondary stations. The primary station then issues another invitation to those stations whose responses had not been detected requesting them to reply on the up-link. Those responses which are deemed intelligible are processed as before and acknowledgements are transmitted together with another invitation on the down-link. The cycle of operations is repeated until either a predetermined number of cycles have elapsed or it is considered that all the intelligible responses have been received.

  • Patent number: 6366769
Abstract: Frequency synthesizers are used for down conversion of RF signals in a lot of applications, such as digital and analog radio and television receivers, car radios, etc. By combining the voltage-controlled oscillator of the phase-locked loop demodulator with the voltage-controlled oscillator of the frequency synthesizer, a major cost reduction can be achieved, but measures have to be taken to prevent that the two PLLs try to lock the same VCO to different frequencies. These measures include providing a switching circuit between the phase frequency comparator and the charging circuit, and controlling the switching circuit by using a frequency window detector.
