Abstract: A method of demilitarizing an energetic is disclosed. The method comprises indirectly heating the energetic in a chamber to a temperature below a combustion temperature of the energetic to at least partially decompose the energetic and substantially preclude combustion of the energetic such that the indirect heating produces a decomposition gas, and separating at least a portion of the decomposition gas from the chamber. The method may further comprise monitoring the decomposition gas and/or passing the separated decomposition gas through an air abatement system. The method may further comprise adjusting at least one of the following: the indirect heating of the energetic, the separating of the decomposition gas, the air abatement system, and a residence time of the energetic in the chamber. • Publication number: 20120255727
Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed for conducting a fluid and solids production test in a subterranean well. A testing apparatus may be inserted into a wellbore. The apparatus may employ a tubular housing with entry port(s) through the housing. An inner assembly may be positioned within the tubular housing, the inner assembly being configured for connection to the tubular housing. The inner assembly may include a fluid permeable screen and a distal end forming a reservoir that is scaled, or may be adapted to be scaled, for the collection of solids during a well production testing event. Following a testing event, the apparatus may be removed from the wellbore to enable the collected solids to be measured to determine the amount of solids generated by a subterranean formation at actual field flow conditions.

  • Publication number: 20120259902
Abstract: Systems and methods for calculating the Lyapunov exponent of a chaotic system are described. In one particular embodiment, a Lyapunov exponent calculating method includes obtaining a value indicative of a condition of a chaotic system and assigning the value to first and second precision levels, the second precision level having a higher level of precision than the first precision level. The method also includes iterating the chaotic system over time and comparing the value at the first precision level with the value at the second precision level. From the comparison of values at the first and second precision levels, the method calculates the Lyapunov exponent for the chaotic system.

  • Patent number: 8281991
Abstract: To secure communications in an untrusted environment for a commercial transaction on an account between the account's holder and a merchant, an identifier and a signature can be derived from a token. The identifier is associated by use of a directory with an application context that identifies the account's issuer. The merchant will provide the signature to the account's issuer, or agent thereof, to be verified. In practice, a merchant to the identified issuer of an account an authorization request message for a transaction that includes a signature and an identifier for the account upon which the transaction is to be conducted. The account's issuer responds with an authorization response message that includes an indicator that the signature has been verified. After notice of the signature's verification, the transaction on the account is deemed authorized and the merchant can proceed.

  • Publication number: 20120253681
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for processing seismic data includes the determining, from the seismic data, a first amplitude attribute map at a first image depth corresponding to a shallow attenuating body, and a second amplitude attribute map at a second image or target depth. The first and second amplitude attribute maps are then normalized, and a ratio map is determined based on a ratio of the normalized first and second amplitude attribute maps. The ratio map is scaled to yield a scale factor map, which is then applied to the seismic data to compensate for effects of shallow overburden attenuation.

  • Publication number: 20120252968
Abstract: Copoly(imide oxetane) materials are disclosed that can exhibit a low surface energy while possessing the mechanical, thermal, chemical and optical properties associated with polyimides. The copoly(imide oxetane)s are prepared using a minor amount of fluorinated oxetane-derived oligomer with sufficient fluorine-containing segments of the copoly(imide oxetane)s that migrate to the exterior surface of the polymeric material to yield low surface energies. Thus the coatings and articles of manufacture made with the copoly(imide oxetane)s of this invention are characterized as having an anisotropic fluorine composition. The low surface energies can be achieved with very low content of fluorinated oxetane-derived oligomer. The copolymers of this invention can enhance the viability of polyimides for many applications and may be acceptable where homopolyimide materials have been unacceptable.

  • Publication number: 20120251255
Abstract: A control system for an air driven drill is described, wherein the control system is of the kind that provides a feed stroke to a drill bit. The system comprises an interrupt line so that compressed air fed to a feed chamber is also fed to a clamp chamber whereby the unbalanced force on the feed piston becomes balanced so as to stop the feed stroke. An adjustable frequency generator is provided to impose a pulsating pressure variation in an air pressure supply. During a feed stroke under which compressed air is fed to the feed chamber, air fed to the clamp chamber via the interrupt line is caused by the adjustable frequency generator to have a pulsating pressure, so that the feed stroke is caused to be stopped for a first period, then resumed for a second period, to provide a periodically interrupted feed stroke.

  • Publication number: 20120253762
Abstract: A method and corresponding system is provided for computation utilizing an earth model representation via a computing system having a first processor having access to an earth model dataset. The method includes compressing the earth model dataset at the first processor to generate a look-up table and a set of data indices (i.e., collectively a compressed earth model representation), wherein the look-up table includes quantized data values. By then storing the look-up table in a first level (“fast”) memory, and storing the indices in a second level (“slower,” higher memory capacity) memory, the look-up table and the indices can be accessed to selectively decompress the compressed earth model representation at the first processor such that the computation can be performed efficiently by the first processor.

  • Patent number: 8278438
Abstract: The production of a diutan polysaccharide exhibiting increased viscosity properties as compared with previously produced polysaccharide of the same type of repeating units. Such an improved diutan polysaccharide is produced through the generation of a derivative of Sphingomonas sp. ATCC 53159 that harbors a multicopy broad-host-range plasmid into which genes for biosynthesis of diutan polysaccharide have been cloned. The plasmid provides the capability within the host Sphingomonas strain to produce multiple copies of genes for such polysaccharide synthesis. In such a manner, a method of not just increased production of the target diutan polysaccharide, but also production of a diutan polysaccharide of improved physical properties (of the aforementioned higher viscosity) thereof is provided. Such a diutan polysaccharide has proven particularly useful as a possible viscosifier in oilfield applications and within cement materials.

  • Patent number: 8279487
Abstract: In a print shop system including a plurality of printers and a print shop management server which manages print jobs, an improved method is described for detecting color components in a document page for purposes of assigning the document to appropriate printers for printing. First, each page element is analyzed without rasterizing the page. If a raster image is colored, its location and size are added to an image information list. If a non-raster graphical element overlaps a raster image previously stored in the image information list, the overlapped raster image is removed from the list. After analyzing all page elements of the page, if any raster image remains in the image information list, the page is marked as colored. Otherwise, the page is rasterized to detect colored using a conventional method. The resolution used for page rasterization may be controlled by a user.
