  • Patent number: 5962954
Abstract: A piezo-electric transformer comprising a piezo-electric body (PEB) including a driving region having input electrodes (1, 3) and at least one driven region having output electrodes (E11). These regions have opposite faces with at least one of the regions comprising a number of sections polarized in a direction perpendicular to the opposite faces and one pole of each section being connected to an opposite pole of another section by electrically conductive elements (2, 1', 2') in such a way that the sections form a series arrangement. These sections are in a very simple way effectively arranged in series, thereby increasing the input impedance of the piezo-electric transformer. Because the sections are polarized in opposing directions the electrically conductive elements can be of a very simple construction which do not require external conduction wires.

  • Patent number: 5963260
Abstract: A microblock-level partitioned digital HDTV video decoder for decoding a bit stream consisting of a series of macroblocks of digital video data which are coded in accordance with an MPEG or other predetermined digital compression code. The decoder includes a bit stream parser for identifying boundaries between the macroblocks and producing macroblock boundary information indicative of the identified boundaries, a bit stream formatter for combining the macroblock boundary information with the bit stream to produce a combined bit stream having successive multi-bit portions, a rate buffer for storing and sequentially outputting the successive multi-bit portions, first and second FIFO memories, and a FIFO controller for alternately write enabling the first and second FIFO memories in response to the macroblock boundary information. The FIFO memories thereby alternately store the successive macroblocks in the combined bit stream sequentially outputted from the rate buffer.

  • Patent number: 5963282
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device (10) capable of displaying dark characters on a light background, for example a paper white type display, having an LC medium (20), such as PDLC material, switchable between a state in which ambient light incident on one side is back scattered towards a viewer and a state in which incident visible light is transmitted through the medium to a light absorber at the other side so that a viewer perceives a dark display, and in which a photovoltaic structure (25) is used as the light absorber for generating an output voltage in response to the visible light transmitted thereto. In equipment such as a portable computer or the like, the generated power can be utilised to supplement a battery power supply (45).

  • Patent number: 5963081
Abstract: A circuit arrangement having at least two signal paths which can be alternately enabled by feeding respective controllable current sources and by logic signals selecting one of these controllable current sources, while, at a transition from one signal path to the other, the controllable current sources of the relevant two signal paths are controllable by a time-continuously changing control signal during a transition interval, such that currents which can be supplied by these two controllable current sources change continuously and in opposite directions.

  • Patent number: 5963109
Abstract: A converter for a satellite antenna including a housing (20) accommodating a circuit support (13, 24) and having a hollow waveguide (26) and an RF output (28), both of which can be connected to the circuit support. The manufacturing effort can be reduced in that, together with adapted metallic components (11, 12), the circuit support constitutes a self-contained, fully operable core module (10, 21) which can be built into the housing.

  • Patent number: 5963375
Abstract: A four element, athermalized projection lens for use in forming an enlarged color image of a LCD panel is disclosed. The powers of the elements from the screen to the LCD are negative/positive/negative/positive and the dispersions are low dispersion/low dispersion/high dispersion/low dispersion. The first three elements are composed of plastic and the last element is composed of glass. The projection lens exhibits a high level of aberration correction over magnifications ranging from about 5.times. to about 12.times.. The four element design comprises the minimum number of elements capable of achieving a relatively long back focal length, athermalization, and lateral color correction of less than about half a pixel.

  • Patent number: 5963095
Abstract: An amplifier circuit, particularly for RF-purposes includes a main current stream of a controllable RF-semiconductor device having a control input, a control means having a control output coupled to the control input for controlling the main current stream, and a compensation circuit having a compensation output coupled to the control input for compensating the controllable semiconductor device. The compensation circuit is constructed so as to be temporarily active during a period of time wherein the control means do not supply a control output signal to the control input of the controllable semiconductor device. This provides a suitable solution for IC's and for dealing with DC-adjustment disturbances in a low DC-current dissipating manner caused by a lack of pull-down capability when the amplifier circuit operates at very high frequencies or at relatively large amplitudes.

  • Patent number: 5963038
Abstract: An integrated circuit includes a sensor which is arranged in the vicinity of a conductor in the circuit and is capable of measuring the current through the conductor. This sensor, for example constructed as a coil, is capable of determining whether a connection which includes the conductor is in order. It can thus be tested notably whether the possibly multiple supply connection of the integrated circuit is appropriately connected to an external connection terminal.

  • Patent number: 5963115
Abstract: The Application describes a ceramic filter as well as a method of manufacturing same. Such filters comprise at least two stripline resonators in the form of printed metal layers which, during operation of the filter, are electromagnetically coupled and which are separated from each other by means of a ceramic dielectric. In accordance with the invention, the metal layers (preferably of palladium) must have a minimum thickness of 10 micrometers, and they are substantially rectangular in cross-section. Filters having these characteristics exhibit surprisingly low insertion losses during operation. The invention can very advantageously be used in so-called broadline-coupling filters.

  • Patent number: 5961896
Abstract: In a first aspect, a carburetor fuel adjusting device that facilitates control of the quantity of fuel that flows from the fuel chamber to an air intake port of a carburetor by making it possible for the user to adjust an adjustment valve within the limits defined by emission control regulations. The carburetor fuel adjusting device has a cap having two appendages, and an engagement area to engage a valve extension of the fuel adjustment valves of a carburetor. The cap is retained by the retainer in either a disengaged position, or an engaged position wherein the engagement area of the cap becomes attached to the valve extensions. In the engaged position, the adjustment valves can be turned in unison with the cap within a range formed by the angle between the appendages which, when rotated, abut against stoppers.

  • Patent number: 5959411
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for supplying a discharge lamp comprises a control circuit which is provided with an integrated circuit. Means for generating a signal which is a measure of the lamp voltage are coupled to one pin of the integrated circuit. The periodic switching of the integrated circuit between a first and a second state insures that the lamp voltage will not exceed a minimum admissible value and a maximum admissible value. The use of only one pin makes the integrated circuit simple and accordingly inexpensive, while in addition only a small number of external components is required.
