Abstract: A process for the production of polyalkyl tetrahydronaphthalenes is disclosed wherein a cyclialkylation reaction between an olefinic compound of the general Formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.5, R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 are independently defined and each is a substituent which does not interfere with a Friedel-Crafts type alkylation reaction, and a substituted benzene compound is carried out in the presence of an alkyl halide, a Lewis acid and a phase transfer agent. The subject process, which may be practiced in an unhalogenated hydrocarbon solvent, produces the desired compounds in a surprisingly high yield, with a surprisingly high selectivity to the desired product, and at a relatively high rate of reaction, using safer solvents and better, more convenient, or less expensive process methodology than many processes known heretofore.

Abstract: The present invention comprises a water dispersible polyamide ester useful in flexographic ink formulations and Cold Seal Release Lacquers. A high AV polyamide is reacted with a polyol to increase molecular weight via ester formation. The polyamide ester is then reacted with a cyclic carboxylic anhydride. A general formula for the product resin is as follows: ##STR1## wherein x is an integer of 1-5; R'=a polyamide ester chain of molecular weight 500-2000; where y is an integer of 1-3; R.sup.2 is independently at each occurrence the residue of a cyclic carboxylic anhydride bearing at least one free carboxyl group or ##STR2## where R.sup.3 is independently at each occurrence R' or a polyamide segment of up to 2000 MW.

Abstract: An end dam for use in a coater head which applies a coating material under pressure from a reservoir onto a web is shown to include an attachment arrangement for attaching the end dam to the coater head a first wall which prevents the lateral movement of the coating material, thereby defining one end of the reservoir, a second wall, spaced from the first wall and laterally away from the reservoir, such that a channel is formed therebetween so that coating material passing over the first wall experiences a drop in pressure sufficient to maintain the coating material within the channel.
Abstract: Portable containers suitable for use as disposable contaminated material containers are provided. The containers include a top closure including first and second closure flaps whereby the first closure flap has a central opening for filling the box and a handle member for holding it. The handle member can be inserted into a corresponding aperture of the second closure flap which protects the handle from being contaminated during use. The design also includes using an interior space defined by an internal open-ended container wrapped in a preferred thermoplastic bag. This feature enables the container to resist leakage of contaminated materials and the risk of puncture of the container by sharp objects.
Abstract: Hot melt polyamide adhesive compositions are disclosed which exhibit long open assembly times. The polyamides are the condensation products of an acid component consisting essentially of a polymeric fatty acid and a dicarboxylic acid, and an amine component consisting essentially of a cyclic diamine, a non-cyclic aliphatic diamine and, optionally, additional organic diamines.
Abstract: A process for purifying exo-2-hydroxy-1,4-cineole contaminated with ketones is carried out by derivatizing the ketone to form a compound readily separable from the desired cineole, either by distillation, solvent extraction or like separation process. In one embodiment method of the invention, derivatization is carried out by reaction of the ketone with an amine. The amine reacts with the ketone impurities to form water and relatively stable enamine derivatives that have a much lower vapor pressure than the exo-2-hydroxy-1,4-cineole. The desired product may then be separated by distillation.
Abstract: A method is provided for the preparation of stable aqeuous dispersions of non-solvated, un-neutralized, low amine, low acid number polymerized fatty acid polyamider resins. In the preferred method of this invention, a polymerized fatty acid polyamide resin which has been prepared so as to have a low acid and low amine number is liquefied by heating the polyamide resin to a temperature where it is at or above its melting point. The liquified polymerized fatty acid polyamide resin is then blended with a predetermined amount of water which is heated to a temperature such that the resulting blend will have a temperature above the melting point of the polyamide resin. A cationic surfactant which is the salt of the amide of the formula:R--NH--CH.sub.2).sub.n.sbsb.1 (NH--CH.sub.2).sub.n.sbsb.2).sub.n.sbsb.3 NH.sub.2wherein R represents an alkyl having 16-20 carbon atoms and n.sub.1 and n.sub.2 are the same or different and each represents a whole number from 1-3 and n.sub.3 is 0 or 1, is included in the mixture.
Abstract: Containers are disclosed which include an adhesive composition sealing a component part. The adhesive contains a volatile, environment affecting compound for slow release to the atmosphere.
Abstract: The rate for producing blown films of thermoplastic resins may be increased by using the extrusion and blowing apparatus of the invention, which includes a means of rapidly cooling the blown film at points both above and below the bubble frost line.

Abstract: A process for preparing linerboards from blends of Kraft chemical pulp with a Kraft high yield pulp comprises forming the pulp blend into sheets, pressing the sheets to a specific solids content and subsequently pressing at a press impulse of at least 7.5 psig-second. The linerboards have the same crush strength as those prepared from Kraft chemical pulps.
Abstract: An ink composition is proved having the properties of stability and uniformity of performance under ink jet printing conditions and desired printing properties can be obtained with hot melt ink compositions consisting of a resinous binder comprised of a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a polymerized fatty acid residue with two carboxylic acid groups removed R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are the same or different and each represent an alkylene with up to 12 carbon atoms, a cycloalkylene with 6 to 12 carbon atoms, an arylene with 6 to 12 carbon atoms or an alkarylene with 7 to 12 carbon atoms and R.sub.4 and R.sub.
Abstract: A method is provided for preparing cineole in an improved yield and with increased 1,4- isomer content, by reaction of terpin hydrate or terpineol with an acid, such as phosphoric acid, with distillation of the cineole from the reaction mixture as the cineole is formed.
Abstract: Polyamide resins are produced by reacting diamines, polymeric fatty acids, and monoamines. The monoamine component serves as a chain stopper and renders the polyamide resin product soluble in toluene. The resulting resins are especially useful as binder components in printing inks, and are distinguished by their ready solubility in toluene alone.
