Abstract: This invention describes a method, the starting point of which is a three-dimensional image of the heart. A region of interest is defined on said image. Moreover, the surface which will be represented in the display in the form of a three-dimensional polygon mesh is defined. Each vertex of the mesh is associated with a function which assigns weights to each element in the region of interest. Display parameters are assigned to the vertices using said functions together with the intensity values of the elements in the region of interest. Said parameters are used to generate the interactive display of the surface. One application of the method would be the use thereof to help to characterize the myocardial substrate of ventricular tachycardia in patients with ischemic heart disease and to guide ablation procedures for correcting said tachycardia.

  • Patent number: 8354031
Abstract: A filtering system for water and other liquids includes different filtering stages in the same element, with its cleaning being done automatically by a new procedure. The filtering system includes a cylindrical outer casing with the pipe of the water to be filtered penetrating tangentially through its base, using centrifugal force in the first filtering stage to separate the particles with greater density. Then the liquid takes a helicoidal path and passes through different filtering devices, such as mesh or rings with the filtered and, therefore, clean water finally being collected in an appropriately perforated central pipe that comes out of the filter through the center of its lower base. The system is used for the cleaning of liquids, basically water, in agriculture for localized irrigation, in industry, or the environment.

  • Patent number: 8341894
Abstract: An enclosure is made out of transparent or translucent panes which form a chamber (1) through which a liquid flows in closed circuit and which interchanges energy with the inner and outer environments, a heat exchanger (2) in contact with the liquid, a circulation pump (3), and a hydrostatic pressure reducer device (4). The hydrostatic pressure reducer device allows the reduction of the thicknesses of the transparent panes which hold the liquid inside. The active character of the enclosure is due to its capacity of controlling the solar heat load and the illumination. The solar heat load is regulated through the heat exchanger. The illumination of the building is controlled through the adjustable transparency of the liquid. The described enclosure allows the creation of an isothermal envelope which allows the climatization of the building. The system can be used for active outer enclosures or for interior partitions for the climatization and luminic control, as well as for glass roofs or false ceilings.

  • Publication number: 20120303337
Abstract: The invention refers to systems and methods to optimize the memory and communications that suits the memory organization of many scientific codes, such as Computer Fluid Dynamics codes, that operate on meshes, such the mesh of an object that moves through a fluid medium. The methods adjust the order in which the data are used inside the algorithm, by means of traversing and ordering the mesh. This ordered mesh is streamed into the lower memory levels and allows for minimal data transfer requirements. The method also reduces the memory needs dramatically and improves the execution time of the scientific code. The systems and methods are particularly useful in the aeronautic industry for designing new aircrafts.

  • Publication number: 20120023942
Abstract: The present invention allows increasing the net electric power supplied to the network by the solar thermal power plants of the cylindrical parabolic collector type by using the solar field in a more efficient manner, generating steam to drive the main ancillaries by means of steam turbines (turbo pumps), reducing electric consumption of the ancillary services and therefore increasing the net electric power of the plant. On days when the solar radiation is greater than the designed radiation, part of the solar field must stop being used since the generator and the turbine would exceed its designated power. The present system proposes harnessing the unused portion of the solar field for generating steam to drive the main ancillaries of the plant, energy which would otherwise not be harnessed. In addition, the overall operating performance of the ancillary service pumps is better when using steam to drive the pumps through a steam turbine (turbo pumps) instead of driving them with electric motors (motor pumps).

Abstract: A continuous query parallel engine on data streams provides scalability and increases the throughput by the addition of new nodes. The parallel processing can be applied to data stream processing and complex events processing. The continuous query parallel engine receives the query to be deployed and splits the original query into subqueries, obtaining at least one subquery; each subquery is executed in at least in one node. Tuples produced by each operator of each subquery are labeled with timestamps. A load balancer is interposed at the output of each node that executes each one of the instances of the source subquery and an input merger is interposed in each node that executes each one of the instances of a destination subquery. After checks are performed, further load balancers or input managers may be added.

  • Patent number: 8041547
Abstract: A computer-aided method suitable for assisting in the design of an aircraft by providing the values of dimensional variables, dependant of a predefined set of parameters, for the complete aircraft or an aircraft component, comprising the following steps: a) Defining a parametric space grid; b) Obtaining a suitable Reduced Order Model (ROM) model, particularly a Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) model, for calculating said variables for whatever point over the parametric space through an iterative process. Computer Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is used to calculate said variables for an appropriately selected set of points over the parametric space, which are used to approximate, via ROM and ad hoc interpolation, the variables in any other point over the parametric space. The method minimizes the required number of CFD calculations (to minimize the computational cost, which dramatically depends on this number) for a given level of error.

Abstract: Underwater electrical energy generator with a three-blade propeller for the harnessing of energy from the water in the direction of its axis, in both directions. The propeller drives an alternating current generator located in a central dome from which there extend three arms joined to floats which close the Y-shaped structure by means of tie beams. The assembly has neutral floatability and is set into position by means of an anchoring system with a set of buoys joined to the bottom by one or more cables. An end of the generator is joined to an anchoring line by means of a horizontal cable in one of the main directions of the current. From the other end another two horizontal cables, open at an angle with respect to the direction of the current, are joined to another two anchoring lines. The assembly can be ballasted to go from an operating vertical underwater position to a horizontal floating position to facilitate maintenance tasks.
