Abstract: We present an invention on the synthesis of elastic, bio-compatible functional microstructures wherein the designed electrical functionalities are achieved by mixing conducting nano to micro-particles with PDMS gels. The methodology for constructing planar and three-dimensional microstructures by soft-lithographic technique is presented. Applications such as electrodes, conducting strips, two and three-dimensional microstructures for electrical wiring connections, micro heaters, micro heater arrays, flexible thermochromic displays, and applications for microfluidic devices are demonstrated, all with demonstrated elastic flexibility and fall-proof characteristics while maintaining their functionalities. Results obtained are very promising for the utilization of such composites in future micro-fabrications, especially for the bio-chips and microfluidic devices.

Abstract: A titanium oxide extended gate field effect transistor (EGFET) device and fabricating method thereof. Titanium oxide is formed on an EGFET by sputtering, coating a detection membrane therefor. Current-voltage relationships at different pH values are also measured via a current measuring system. Sensitivity parameter of the titanium oxide EGFET is calculated according to a relationship between a pH value and a gate voltage.

Abstract: A process of synthesizing hyperbranched polytriazoles, linear and hyperbranched poly(aroyltriazoles) by Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition. The polytriazoles were prepared by A2+B3 method to avoid self-polymerization during monomer preparation and storage. The polymers are light emissive and can be crosslinked to generate well-resolution photopatterns upon UV irradiation. White light emission patterns were observed with fluorescence microscopy. The high molecular weight poly(aroyltriazoles) (up to 26000 Da) are prepared in high yields (up to 92.0%) and with high regioselectivity (the ratio of 1,4- and 1,5-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazole is equal or larger than 9:1). The polycyclomerization is not moisture or oxygen sensitive and therefore, no special precautions are necessary before and during the reaction. All the polymers are processible, easily film-forming, and curable into thermosets by heat or irradiation. The hyperbranched polymers can act as fluorescent adhesive materials with large tensile strength.

Abstract: A method of depositing a stable diamond film on a metal substrate includes pretreating a surface of the substrate and depositing a diamond film on the substrate by way of a multi-stage chemical vapor deposition, in which each subsequent stage is performed at progressively higher temperature. The deposited diamond may be doped with boron. The substrate may be titanium, a titanium alloy, iron, an iron alloy, or any other valve metal. The diamond deposition may be a high temperature chemical vapor deposition. The first deposition stage may optionally create a carbide of diamond and substrate, and an optional mixture of diamond and amorphous carbon may be deposited to bond this carbide layer to a subsequently applied layer. The resulting product may be used as an electrode, as a tooth or blade in a cutting tool, or may have many other uses.

Abstract: A detection system that performs in a passive optical network is disclosed. The detection system uses a central office to provide detection signals to corresponding fiber branches for obtaining different reflected signals based on different optical network models. Hence, the central office can determine whether fiber branches in the passive optical network has a fault and where the fault is according to the reflected signals.

Abstract: Algorithms are described that facilitate the inference of a network topology by estimating router co-ordinates and merging anonymous routers. The algorithms have practical applications in the inference of a network topology as part of the provision of a network service that is based on the underlying topology and where knowledge of the actual topology allows improved performance.

Abstract: A novel form of an integrated variable inductor uses an on-chip transformer together with a variable capacitor. The variable capacitor can either be a varactor or a switched capacitor array and is connected to the secondary coil of the transformer. By changing the capacitance at the secondary coil of a transformer, the equivalent inductance looking into the primary coil of the transformer can be adjusted. With another capacitor in parallel to the primary coil, two different modes of resonance inherently exist, and a very wide frequency tuning range can be achieved by combining the two modes.

Abstract: A parser for parsing a text-coded protocol includes: a parsing rule storage module, configured to store a parsing rule for parsing a packet of the text-coded protocol; and a packet parsing module, implemented by a logic chip, configured to parse the packet according to the parsing rule stored in the parsing rule storage module, and output a parsing result. Compared with software-based parsers, the hardware-based parser provided by embodiments of the present invention improves parsing efficiency and reduces cost of the parser. In addition, the parser provided by embodiments of the present invention has a better generality.

Abstract: The invention provides an asymmetric UHF RFID tag antenna that variously comprises a capacitive load, a folded loop conductor and an inductive matching element, which provides a differential input for RFID tag circuitry. The design provides a small form factor while maintaining a high gain and impedance tuning properties. Various refinements and associated devices and systems using the design are provided and disclosed according to a host of optional embodiments.

Abstract: A system and methodology for efficient multi-user transmission in a wireless communication with limited feedback are provided. A non-cooperative feedback-based multi-user transmission scheme is described, wherein users in a wireless communication system may independently communicate selected channel information feedback to the base station. The base station may then choose suitable precoding weights based on the received channel information feedback. An adaptive threshold-based feedback approach is also described for multi-user transmission, wherein the quality of feedback for each user can be quantified by a special threshold by the system prior to engaging in multi-user communication.

Abstract: A ruthenium oxide electrode. The ruthenium oxide electrode includes a substrate, a ruthenium oxide film formed thereon, and a conductive wire connecting to the ruthenium oxide film. The invention also provides a method of fabricating the ruthenium oxide electrode.

Abstract: A uricase enzyme biosensor and fabrication method thereof. The uricase enzyme biosensor includes a metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor, a sensing unit including a substrate, a titanium dioxide film formed thereon and a uricase enzyme sensing film formed on the titanium dioxide film, and a conductive wire connecting with the metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor and the sensing unit. The invention also provides a sensing system and a sensing circuit including the biosensor.

The reference pH sensor is an extended gate field effect transistor (EGFET) structure and comprises a metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) on a semiconductor substrate, a sensing unit comprising a substrate, a solid-state conductive sensing layer on the substrate, and a polypyrrole layer on the solid-state conductive sensing layer, and a metal wire connecting the MOSFET and the sensing unit.

Abstract: A catalytic material which includes a metal oxide catalyst anchored to a nano-sized metal oxide crystal as support and functions well at low temperatures. The catalytic material may optionally include another metal oxide as a promoter deposited on the surface of the support to modify the properties of the metal oxide catalyst and/or the properties of the support. The catalyst may be vanadium oxide, tungsten oxide, manganese oxide, chromium oxide or molybdenum oxide; the support may be TiO2, SiO2, Al2O3, ZrO2, or WO3; and the promoter may be vanadium oxide, tungsten oxide, manganese oxide, chromium oxide or molybdenum oxide. The present invention also provides a method of producing the catalytic materials, which is useful in removing ammonia and other nitrogen containing contaminants.

Abstract: There is provided a method for converting an image with N rows of pixels present and N rows of pixels missing to an image with 2N rows of pixels, wherein the missing pixels are generated by performing a deinterlacing algorithm. The algorithm determines whether missing pixels are part of a horizontal edge region, a smooth region, a vertical edge region or a texture region. Based on the determination, a deinterlacing method is selected.
