Abstract: A lighting device such as an electronic ballast or LED driver includes a power factor correction (PFC) controller responsive to input power supply signals to generate control signals, a PFC boost converter responsive to said control signals to generate a boosted output voltage, and a fast start circuit with a power supply source and an energy storage device, a magnitude of the input power supply signal corresponding to energy stored in the energy storage device. During a first mode, the fast start circuit responds to a rectified mains input to enable the power supply source and charge the energy storage device. During a second mode, the fast start circuit responds to a magnitude of the power supply signal to disable the power supply source and discharge the energy storage device. The boost converter during the second operating mode maintains controller operation while the power supply source is disabled.
Abstract: A method and device are provided for fast impedance measurement of a biological object having dynamically varying in time parameters, wherein a titlet shaped pulse is introduced into the object and a voltage response signal is measured and analyzed by a processing unit for estimating the impedance of the object. The titlet pulse has a start frequency substantially in one end of the frequency range of interest and a stop frequency substantially in the other end of the frequency range of interest and a duration of the titlet pulse is one cycle or less.

Abstract: The present invention provides an NAT (Network Address Translator) traversal method in Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for solving the problems of SIP in Internet phone (VoIP) under current Internet environment. In other words, the present invention solves the SIP problems caused by NAT (Network Address Translator) that P2P (Peer to Peer) transmission cannot traverse the NAT firewall directly. The major content of the present invention is that the computer conducts multiple registrations before issuing an Invite message in order to detect the rule of the NAT server to assign port number and IP address. Additional commands or parameters beyond the SIP standard are not required for the NAT traversal function. Hence, the capability of SIP for a NAT traversal function is provided without no additional commands or parameters.

Abstract: In a metamaterial, a dielectric layer includes a host medium and dielectric bodies disposed in rows with predetermined intervals therebetween is sandwiched between a pair of conductive mesh plates each having holes, thereby forming a functional layer including dielectric resonators corresponding to the dielectric bodies. The metamaterial is configured by laminating the functional layers. Abstract: There are provided a method by which a stress history of an object can be measured with high reliability if the object, which has temporarily been elastically deformed upon receiving an external force, recovers from the elastic deformation, and a composite material containing cement as a main component, of which a stress history can be measured with high reliability without reducing the strength of the material itself and without breaking the structure. Abstract: A control signal interface circuit includes a line voltage protection circuit coupled to first and second input terminals. The protection circuit provides an input DC voltage across the input terminals within a predetermined range (i.e., 0-10 Vdc) and prevents the application of an input line voltage (i.e., 347 Vac) across the input terminals. A first current source circuit is coupled to the protection circuit, an isolation circuit is coupled to the first current source circuit and a second current source circuit is coupled to the isolation circuit. The first and second current source circuits collectively provide a linear output DC voltage with respect to the input DC voltage. Abstract: A method is provided for treating a disease or condition characterized by aberrant epithelial cell proliferation and/or migration. One step of the method can include administering to a mammal an agent which disrupts an isolated protein complex including: insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I); an insulin-like growth factor binding protein (IGFBP) selected from IGFBP-3 and IGFBP-5; and vitronectin; or which prevents formation of the isolated protein complex, to thereby treat the disease or condition in the mammal. The agent is selected from the group consisting a polypeptide that is distinguished from IGF-II by substitution of at least one amino acid residue, wherein the polypeptide disrupts the isolated protein complex.
Abstract: A target-travel-path generating circuit calculates a target travel path along which a controlled object can travel in the future from a current controlled object position. An ideal-control-signal calculating circuit calculates a control profile to travel along the target travel path, and a difference calculating circuit calculates a difference between an ideal control magnitude and a current control magnitude. A controller controls an operation system based on a magnitude of the difference to assist a control operation and a control-operation-state of an operator, an environment-state, and a required operation-precision. The operator receives assistance corresponding to the magnitude of the difference from an ideal control state, the control-operation-state, the environment-state, and the required operation-precision. An outputted control-operation assistance control is suitable for conditions that characterize the operator state, the environment, and the controlled object.

Abstract: There is provided a zeolite membrane which is thinner than a conventional membrane and which has improved permeability and a method for manufacturing the zeolite membrane. The method includes a surface layer forming step for forming a surface layer by attaching a low polar polymer on a first surface of a porous substrate to cover the surface, a filling step for filling a masking polymer into pores in the porous substrate from a surface different from the first surface of the porous substrate up to the surface layer by impregnating the porous substrate with the masking polymer and solidifying the masking polymer, and a surface layer removing step for removing the surface layer. After the surface layer removing step, a zeolite membrane is formed on the first surface of the porous substrate.

Abstract: A lamp ballast is provided for igniting and operating an HID lamp. A buck inverter circuit includes a pair of high-frequency and a pair of low-frequency switches. A capacitor and an inductor are series-connected between a first node between the low frequency switches and a second node between the high frequency switches. Abstract: Various embodiments relate to a method, apparatus, system, and a computer program product for suppressing an oscillatory signal Sosc. In the method a composite signal S comprising said Sosc and a modulating signal Smod are provided and the S is high pass filtered to produce estimates of the Sosc and the Smod, wherein the estimate of the Sosc comprises first oscillations during a first state of the modulating signal and second oscillations during a second state of the modulating signal. A first bin associated with said first state and a second bin associated with said second state are defined and assigned for said first oscillation and the second bin for said second oscillation according to a state defined from the estimate of the Smod. A first average waveform for said first oscillations and a second average waveform for said second oscillations are formed and used to suppress the Sosc signal from the composite signal S.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a compound refractive lens for focusing X-rays in two dimensions. The method includes the following steps: 1) manufacturing a mother lens; 2) manufacturing a daughter lens; and 3) assembling the mother lens and the daughter lens. The assembly of the mother lens and the daughter lens includes: aligning square embedded lens bodies of the daughter lens with square holes of the mother lens, respectively, for allowing the first parabola-shaped holes on the mother lens and the second parabola-shaped holes on the daughter lens to form an orthogonal structure; and inserting and pressing the square embedded lens bodies into the corresponding square holes, respectively. The method of the invention has advantages of high-precision for manufacturing and calibration of optical axis, and meanwhile the compound refractive lens manufactured based the method has high X-rays focusing efficiency.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a porous magnetic antenna, comprising: an antenna; an insulating layer, having one side next to said antenna; and a magnetic layer, placed next to the other side of the insulating layer, separated from said antenna with a distance, and having at least one hole. Abstract: The shape measurement device 1 comprises a light source 11, a measuring beam illumination system 13, a reference comb light separator 14, an optical multiplexer 15 and photodetector 16. The reference comb light separator 14 enters with a broadband light, and it separates in a reference comb light with broadband light. The frequency interval of the reference comb light changes continually depending on a size of Y-coordinate level in the image formation point, when the emission direction is assumed Z-axis direction. X-axis means a virtual cutout line for the measuring object, and Y-coordinate means depth for measuring. The interference image emerging in the detective surface is a tomogram for the measurement substantially.
