Abstract: A chemical looping combustion (CLC) based power generation, particularly using liquid fuel, ensures substantially complete fuel combustion and provides electrical efficiency without exposing metal oxide based oxygen carrier to high temperature redox process. An integrated fuel gasification (reforming)-CLC-followed by power generation model is provided involving (i) a gasification island, (ii) CLC island, (iii) heat recovery unit, and (iv) power generation system. To improve electrical efficiency, a fraction of the gasified fuel may be directly fed, or bypass the CLC, to a combustor upstream of one or more gas turbines. This splitting approach ensures higher temperature (efficiency) in the gas turbine inlet. The inert mass ratio, air flow rate to the oxidation reactor, and pressure of the system may be tailored to affect the performance of the integrated CLC system and process.

Abstract: Provided herein are compositions for preventing, ameliorating, and/or reducing tissue ischemia and/or tissue damage due to ischemia, increasing blood vessel diameter, blood flow and tissue perfusion in the presence of vascular disease including peripheral vascular disease, atherosclerotic vascular disease, coronary artery disease, stroke and influencing other conditions, by suppressing CD47 and/or blocking TSP1 and/or CD47 activity or interaction. Influencing the interaction of CD47-TSP1 in blood vessels allows for control of blood vessel diameter and blood flow, and permits modification of blood pressure and cardiac function. Under conditions of decreased blood flow, for instance through injury or atherosclerosis, blocking TSP1-CD47 interaction allows blood vessels to dilate and increases blood flow, tissue perfusion and tissue survival.

Abstract: A robust and general fabrication/manufacturing method is described herein for the fabrication of periodic three-dimensional (3D) hierarchical nanostructures in a highly scalable and tunable manner. This nanofabrication technique exploits the selected and repeated etching of spherical particles that serve as resist material and that can be shaped in parallel for each processing step. The method enables the fabrication of periodic, vertically aligned nanotubes at the wafer scale with nanometer-scale control in three dimensions including outer/inner diameters, heights/hole-depths, and pitches. The method was utilized to construct 3D periodic hierarchical hybrid silicon and hybrid nanostructures such as multi-level solid/hollow nanotowers where the height and diameter of each level of each structure can be configured precisely as well as 3D concentric plasmonic supported metal nanodisk/nanorings with tunable optical properties on a variety of substrates.

Abstract: Neuromodulation systems in accordance with embodiments of the invention can use a feed-forward common-mode cancellation (CMC) path to attenuate common-mode (CM) artifacts appearing at a voltage input, thus allowing for the simultaneous recording of neural data and stimulation of neurons. In several embodiments of the invention, the feed-forward CMC path is utilized to attenuate the common-mode swings at Vin,CM, which can restore the linear operation of the front-end for differential signals. In several embodiments, the neuromodulation system may utilize an anti-alias filter (AAF) that includes a duty-cycles resistor (DCR) switching at a first frequency f1, followed by a DCR switching at a second frequency f2. The AAF allows for a significantly reduced second frequency f2 that enables the multi-rate DCR to increase the maximum realizable resistance, which is dependent upon the frequency ratio f1/f2.
