Abstract: A cementitious composite and cured masonry block made from the cementitious composite. The cementitious composite contains a cement, a non-rubber aggregate, a crumb rubber and at least one of cement kiln dust and limestone powder. The crumb rubber aggregate is extracted from scrap tires after being processed and then mixed in specified percentages with the aggregate, the cement and water, then cured in forms to make the masonry blocks. In the present disclosure sand, which is used in conventional masonry blocks, is at least partially replaced with crumb rubber to produce a sand-free or sand-reduced masonry block that contains crumb rubber. The crumb rubber masonry blocks satisfy the ASTM non-load bearing requirements. The use of crumb rubber decreases the unit weight and increases thermal resistance of the masonry blocks. The use of cement kiln dust or limestone as a partial replacement of cement will lead to decrease in the cost.

Abstract: Coordinate descent is applied to recover a signal-of-interest from only magnitude information. In doing so, a single unknown value is solved at each iteration, while all other variables are held constant. As a result, only minimization of a univariate quartic polynomial is required, which is efficiently achieved by finding the closed-form roots of a cubic polynomial. Cyclic, randomized, and/or a greedy coordinate descent technique can be used. Each coordinate descent technique globally converges to a stationary point of the nonconvex problem, and specifically, the randomized coordinate descent technique locally converges to the global minimum and attains exact recovery of the signal-of-interest at a geometric rate with high probability when the sample size is sufficiently large. The cyclic and randomized coordinate descent techniques can also be modified via minimization of the l1-regularized quartic polynomial for phase retrieval of sparse signals-of-interest, i.e.
Abstract: The dielectric barrier discharge ionization detector includes: a dielectric tube through which a plasma generation gas is passed; a high-voltage electrode formed on the outer wall of the dielectric tube; two ground electrodes and formed on the outer wall of the dielectric tube, with the high-voltage electrode in between; a voltage supplier for applying AC voltage between the high-voltage electrode and each ground electrode to generate electric discharge within the dielectric tube and thereby generate plasma from the plasma generation gas; and a charge-collecting section for detecting an ion current formed by ionized sample-component gas produced by the plasma. The distance between one ground electrode and the high-voltage electrode is longer than a discharge initiation distance between these two electrodes, while the distance between the other ground electrode and the high-voltage electrode is shorter than the discharge initiation distance between these two electrodes.
Abstract: A method for multi-user CAx editing includes monitoring an operational state of a processor of a first CAx client, receiving, at a communication filter of the first CAx client, a first remote operation to be executed by the first CAx client in a CAx environment, populating the first remote operation to a queue formed in a memory structure in response to a determination that the operational state of the processor of the first CAx client is executing a local operation when the first remote operation is received, and executing the first remote operation in the CAx environment on the first CAx client in response to a determination that the operational state of the processor of the first CAx client is idle. A computer program product such as a computer readable medium and a computer system corresponding to the above method are also disclosed herein.

Abstract: An energy storage-combined cooling, heating and power (S-CCHP) system for a building receives energy from a source, for example an intermittent source, and stores the energy in first and second high temperature energy storage (HTES) units. A Brayton cycle using the first HTES unit produces hot and pressurized air that is further heated in the second HTES unit. The heated air drives a turbine to generate electricity for the building. A portion of the compressed air from the Brayton cycle is diverted to a hot water heat exchanger, then to another turbine to produce electricity to the building. The hot water heat exchanger heats water for the building and the other turbine exhaust cools water for building cooling. Heat exchangers are strategically placed to optimize the thermal efficiency of the cycle. In some embodiments the heat transfer fluid is humidified to improve thermal energy transfer properties.
