Abstract: A method and a system for reoptimizing unmanned aerial vehicle formation communication topology based on minimum cost arborescence are used for optimizing reconstructed UAV formation communication topology after a communication failure occurs on the UAVs in the formation. The method includes calculating a first communication cost of the reconstructed UAV formation communication topology; comparing the first communication cost with a target communication cost for the minimum cost arborescence of the formation communication diagram under a predetermined state; when the first communication cost is greater than the target communication cost for the minimum cost arborescence of the formation communication diagram under the predetermined state, optimizing the reconstructed UAV formation communication topology through a predetermined strategy.

Abstract: A laser system and method employing stimulated Raman scattering using a main laser pulse and a delayed replica reference pulse are provided. A further aspect calculates stimulated Raman loss and stimulated Raman gain from a reflected laser light scatter collected from a fabric or paper specimen. In another aspect, a laser system receives a low energy portion of a spectrum of main and reference laser pulses with a first photodetector, receives a higher energy portion of the spectrum of the main and reference pulses with a second photodetector, and uses a controller to determine a Raman active phonon transfer of energy manifested as an increase in the reflected laser scatter in a lower energy portion of the spectrum and a decrease in a higher energy portion of the spectrum. In yet another aspect, the controller automatically determines if a hazardous particle or substance such as an explosive, is present on a specimen.

Abstract: A sensor-equipped laryngoscope may be used in a system and method for quantifying intubation performance. The level of experience of health care professionals (HCPs) plays a role in the application of force and torque applied to the laryngoscope during endotracheal intubation on an airway simulator, such as a manikin or animal model (e.g., a ferret). A sensor-equipped laryngoscope may provide data that differentiates the mechanics applied by subject matter experts (SMEs) (e.g., neonatologists) from those by novices or trainees during intubation, particularly on infant or neonatal airway simulators. A laryngoscope may be equipped with one or more sensors (e.g., force/torque sensors, accelerometers, and gyroscopes) to record force, torque, and/or three-dimensional motion during endotracheal intubation. The sensor-equipped laryngoscope may then be used to record intubation mechanics (e.g., during an infant airway simulated intubation) for both SMEs and trainees.

Abstract: An optical receiver (100) for detection of light from one or more sources (108) comprises an opaque layer (102) disposed on a first surface. An aperture (104) is formed in the opaque layer. An optical detector (106) has a detection region disposed on a second surface. The first and second surfaces are spaced apart from one another such that light passing through the aperture (104) illuminates a corresponding illumination region (110) on the second surface, and is detected by the optical detector (106) In the event that the detection region overlaps the illumination region. Multiple apertures may be formed in the opaque layer, and/or multiple optical detectors may be disposed on the second surface. The optical receiver may thereby enable optical signals originating at different locations to be detected, and distinguished, over a wide field of view.
