Abstract: A system for measuring surface deflection of a road includes a first stereo line-scan camera pair on a sensor rig and for capturing a first set of 3D images of a road surface; a second stereo line-scan camera pair on the sensor rig and for capturing a second set of 3D images of the road surface; at least one digital electro-optical (EO) camera rigidly attached to the sensor rig; an inertial measurement unit (IMU) detecting inertial forces acting upon the sensor rig; and a processor compensating for acceleration and vibration effects upon the sensor rig; and calculating the surface deflection of the road based on the first and second sets of 3D images. The processor utilizes imagery from the EO camera and inertial measurements from the IMU to produce 2D mosaics and 3D reconstructions of the road surface from the first and second sets of 3D images.

Abstract: In one example, a bearing or transmission has an outer race that extends circumferentially about a central axis. An inner race is disposed within the outer race and extends circumferentially about the central axis so as to be coaxial with the outer race. A plurality of load-bearing rolling elements are disposed between the inner race and the outer race, and are spaced circumferentially from one another so as to not contact one another. A plurality of separator rolling elements are disposed within the outer race. Each separator rolling element is disposed between a respective pair of the load-bearing rolling elements such that the separator rolling element is in rolling contact with the load-bearing rolling elements of the respective pair. The load-bearing and separator rolling elements form a contiguous ring.

Abstract: Methods of recycling target elements include dissolving and/or alloying a metallic component, including one or more target elements, with liquid gallium to provide a gallium melt and exposing the gallium melt with a liquid medium to form an intermediate liquid. The liquid medium is different than the gallium melt. The method also includes adjusting a pH value of the liquid medium to a first target pH and/or adjusting an applied electrical potential value to the intermediate liquid to a first target applied electrical potential, where at least a first portion of an initial total quantity of a first target element is present in a soluble form in the liquid medium. The method further includes isolating the liquid medium from the intermediate liquid to provide a first leachate, and separating the first target element from the first leachate.

Abstract: A probe can be situated within a tissue to perfuse one or more materials, collect material in response, and pass the collected material to a microdialysis probe situated external to the tissue based on fluid flow by electroosmosis. Perfusion and collection can be via orifices that are offset laterally and along a tissue depth. Variation of perfusion by varying materials perfused or rate of perfusion can be used to determine perfusion rates or other time-dependencies., concentrations of chemical species and rates of reactions of chemical species in the tissue.
