Abstract: Transgenic plants that have enhanced yield-related traits, such as increased seed oil production, are produced by genetically engineering the plants to down-regulate the expression of at least one BPM protein. Such transgenic plants can, for example, be cultivated and yield higher seed oil production than control plants which have not been genetically engineered for down regulation of a BPM protein.
Abstract: The present invention provides for a recombinant nucleic acid comprising a nucleotide sequence comprising a plurality of constructs, wherein each construct independently comprises a nucleotide sequence of interest flanked by a pair of recombinase recognition sequences. Each pair of recombinase recognition sequences is recognized by a distinct recombinase. Optionally, each construct can, independently, further comprise one or more genes encoding a recombinase capable of recognizing the pair of recombinase recognition sequences of the construct. The recombinase can be an orthogonal (non-cross reacting), site-selective recombinase (OSSR).

Abstract: An Advanced Biopsy Needle is disclosed that provides both fine needle aspiration and core biopsy with a single insertion, thus reducing trauma and pain to the patient. An inner needle for aspiration and an outer needle for core biopsy are in coaxial relation to each other, thus providing both histology and cytology functions with a single medical device and also with a single insertion. Lateral cutting edges along fenestration openings in the outer needle ensure that adequate tissue samples are taken. A syringe is attached to the inner needle for collection of aspirate.
Abstract: The present invention provides compositions and methods for regulating the specificity and activity of T cells. In one embodiment, the invention provides a type of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) wherein the CAR is termed a “KIR-CAR” which is a CAR design comprising a component of a receptor naturally found on natural killer (NK) cells. In one embodiment, the NK receptor includes but is not limited to a naturally occurring activating and inhibitory receptor of NK cells known as a killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR).

Abstract: A thermal energy harvesting device includes a rotatable shaft and a shape memory alloy element secured to rotatable shaft. The shape memory alloy element is adapted to undergo a shape memory effect upon reaching a transition temperature, which causes rotation of the rotatable shaft. The rotatable shaft may be operatively connected to a generator or tachometer to convert the rotation of the shaft into electrical energy, which may then be stored in a rechargeable battery. In certain embodiments a gear box may be provided to increase the speed of rotation, and thereby increase the amount of electrical energy created.
Abstract: A step impedance resonator filter including a first resonator and a second resonator is disclosed. The first resonator includes a first coupled line and a first tapped line connected to the first coupled line. The second resonator includes a second coupled line and a second tapped line connected to the second coupled line. The second coupled line is coupled with the first coupled line. The first tapped line has a first central line which is spaced from an end face of the first coupled line at a first distance. The second tapped line has a second central line which is spaced from an end face of the second coupled line at a second distance. The first distance is larger than the second distance. As such, the performance of the step impedance resonator filter can be improved.

Abstract: The present invention provides a novel composition of matter useful for the treatment of neoplastic diseases. The novel composition is synergistic and comprised of galectin-3C in combination with a proteasome inhibitor, the combination having a pharmacologic activity greater than the expected additive effect of its individual components. Other embodiments of the invention provide novel synergistic compositions of galectin-3C with a proteasome inhibitor capable of reducing or overcoming resistance that develops to the proteasome inhibitor or reducing the adverse side effects from the proteasome inhibitor through increasing the therapeutic efficacy of lower doses.

Abstract: Lithium is regarded as the gold standard comparator and benchmark treatment for mania. One of the problems associated with Lithium is its narrow therapeutic window. Recent attempts to find new drugs with similar therapeutic activities have yielded new chemical entities. However, these potential new drugs have yet to match the many bioactivities attributable to lithium's efficacy for the treatment of neuropsychiatric diseases. Consequently, an intense effort for re-engineering lithium therapeutics using cocrystallization is currently underway. The evaluation of pharmacokinetics of previously unexplored lithium salts with organic anions (lithium salicylate and lithium lactate) has found that these lithium salts exhibit profoundly different pharmacokinetics compared to the more common FDA approved salt, lithium carbonate, in rats.
Abstract: A trunk supporting exoskeleton comprises: a supporting trunk; thigh links configured to move in unison with a person's thighs; and first and second torque generators located on both left and right halves of the person substantially close to the person's hip. The torque generators couple the supporting trunk to the thigh links, and generate torque between the thigh links and the supporting trunk. When the person bends forward such that a predetermined portion of the supporting trunk passes beyond a predetermined angle from vertical, a torque generator(s) imposes a resisting torque between the supporting trunk and the thigh link(s), causing the supporting trunk to impose a force against the person's trunk, and the thigh link(s) to impose a force onto the person's thigh. When the predetermined portion does not pass beyond the predetermined angle, the torque generators impose no resisting torques between said supporting trunk and respective thigh links.
