Abstract: A rolled-up transformer structure comprises a multilayer sheet having a rolled configuration comprising multiple turns about a longitudinal axis. The multilayer sheet comprises more than one conductive pattern layer on a strain-relieved layer, including a first conductive film and a second conductive film separated from the first conductive film in a thickness direction. The first conductive film comprises an even number of primary conductive strips, where each primary conductive strip has a length extending in the rolling direction, and the second conductive film comprises an even number of secondary conductive strips, where each secondary conductive strip has a length extending in the rolling direction. In the rolled configuration, turns of the primary conductive strips and turns of the secondary conductive strips wrap around the longitudinal axis. The primary conductive strips serve as a primary winding and the secondary conductive strips serve as a secondary winding of the rolled-up transformer structure.

Abstract: Many areas of biomedical research depend on the analysis of uncommon variations in individual genes or transcripts. Here we describe a method that can quantify such variation at a scale and ease heretofore unattainable. Each DNA molecule in a collection of such molecules is converted into a single particle to which thousands of copies of DNA identical in sequence to the original are bound. This population of beads then corresponds to a one-to-one representation of the starting DNA molecules. Variation within the original population of DNA molecules can then be simply assessed by counting fluorescently-labeled particles via flow cytometry. Millions of individual DNA molecules can be assessed in this fashion with standard laboratory equipment. Moreover, specific variants can be isolated by flow sorting and employed for further experimentation.

Abstract: A wireless communication device includes, in part, at least one antenna for receiving or transmitting a signal, and a cancelation circuit adapted to cancel or reduce the self-interference signal. The cancelation circuit includes, in part, a control block, N delay and attenuation paths, a combiner, and a subtractor. Each path includes a delay element and a variable attenuator whose attenuation level varies in response to a control signal generated by the control block. Each path receives a sample of the transmit signal and generates a delayed and attenuated (weighted) version of the sample signal. The combiner combines the N delayed and weighted versions of the sample signal to construct a signal representative of the self-interference signal. The subtractor subtracts the constructed signal from the received signal thereby the cancel or reduce the self-interference signal therefrom.

Abstract: The present invention provides a sand art simulation system and method, which transfers an image into sand art. Analyze contour lines and feature points of objects in the image to find out which contour line can be drawn at the same time. Divide the image into a plurality of blocks, and analyze sand spilling ways at each block. Simulate sand floating in the air, moving and heaping to make a sand-spread plane. Then draw the contour lines on the sand-spread plane to show the sand art of the image.
Abstract: An Axially Graded Index LEns (AGILE) is provided. Such optical elements can provide optical concentration in excess of the free-space brightness theorem limit, because of the increased refractive index at the output of the concentrator compared to the input. Optical contact (i.e., no intervening low index material) between the AGILE and the absorbing element (or an optical source) can be employed to ensure no loss of brightness at the interface between the AGILE and the absorbing element (or source). Although solar cell concentration is a significant application of this technology, there are various other applications, such as increasing the efficiency of optical emission, and providing transmissive optical windows that include optically cloaked regions.

Abstract: Phase error in MR imaging is corrected in real time by providing adaptive RF pulses and corresponding adaptive magnetic field gradients to mitigate the effect of phase error in the imaging subject. A real time phase error map is obtained, and then adaptive RF pulses and corresponding field gradients are applied that remove the problematic effects of the phase error. Depending on details of the MR imaging mode being employed, there are several ways this removal can be done. Phase error can be cancelled by providing RF pulses that make the phase in the imaging subject uniform. Another approach is to make the adaptive RF pulses insensitive to the phase errors that are present.
