  • Publication number: 20190194096
Abstract: The present application provides a hydrodefluorination process for the preparation of hydrofluoroalkenes by catalyzed substitution of one or more F atoms of a C2-C30 fluoroalkene, or a C2-C10 fluoroalkene, with one or more H atoms using a hydride source, such as a silane, and copper catalyst. During this process at least one C—F bond in the fluoroakene is converted to a C—H bond. The process is useful in the manufacture of hydrofluoroalkenes, such as hydrofluoroalkenes employed as, for example, refrigerants and blowers. Also provided are precatalyst compositions for performing the process, and formulations manufactured from hydrofluoroalkenes produced using the process.

  • Publication number: 20190194275
Abstract: Described herein is a novel, mitochondrial encoded, open reading frame, that leads to the production of a new mitochondrial peptide. Residing within the ND-Two subunit, a specific small nucleotide polymorphism disrupts expression of this mitochondrial peptide, and is correlated with an increase in obesity and diabetes, particularly in certain ethnic populations. In vitro administration of the peptide increases insulin secretion, decreases fat accumulation and improves glucose uptake in muscle cell. Antibodies generated against the peptide can be used for detecting peptide deficiency, in addition to SNP detection, supporting diagnostic approaches. In vivo studies further revealed that administration of the peptide improves glucose tolerance, thereby providing a new therapeutic avenue for a novel diabetes therapy and decreases bodyweight, thus serving as a novel obesity therapy. Generation of synthetic analogs further enhance or abrogated activity relative to the natural peptide.

  • Publication number: 20190192540
Abstract: Olsalazine (H4olz), a prodrug of the anti-inflammatory 5-aminosalicylic acid, is used as a ligand to synthesize a suite of M(H2olz) and M2(olz) materials, where M is a dication (e.g. Mg, Ca, Sr, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn). A family of metal olsalazine coordination polymers, coordination solids, and metal organic frameworks are described, which include 1-, 2-, and 3-dimensional structures. The materials resist degradation at acidic pH and release olsalazine preferentially at neutral pH. The mesoporous M2(olz) frameworks exhibit high surface areas with hexagonal pore apertures that are approximately 27 ? in diameter and contain coordinatively unsaturated metal sites. Biologically active molecules containing a Lewis-basic functional group can be grafted directly to the open metal sites of the frameworks. Dissolution of the frameworks under physiological conditions releases olsalazine (H4olz) and the grafted molecules so that multiple therapeutic components can be delivered together at different rates.
