  • Patent number: 8785898
Abstract: A laser liquid level detection device is provided with linear optical magnification of a curved minor. The device includes a laser device, a CCD detecting device having a curved mirror and a CCD sensor and signal processing devices disposed in the laser device and the CCD detecting device. The laser device emits a laser beam to a surface level of a liquid, which reflects the beam to the CCD detecting device, and the curved mirror directs the reflected beam onto the CCD sensor. The shape of the curved mirror is determined by a polynomial curve function so as to linearly magnify a change in a height of the surface when the bounced beam reaches the CCD sensor. The liquid level detection device enables the position of the surface level of the liquid to be detectable in real time with high accuracy.

  • Patent number: 8786497
Abstract: The high isolation multiband MIMO antenna system is a multi-band dual and quad antenna for multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna systems. Element and ground plane geometries that can cover a wide range of frequency bands (780 MHz-5850 MHz) are based on the varying some simple geometrical lengths and widths of the elements and ground planes. The MIMO antenna systems can be used for next generation cellular and wireless MIMO communication systems. Several isolation enhancement schemes increase the isolation between adjacent antenna elements. Any combination of the isolation and MIMO antenna system geometries can be created to support different wireless system standards. The novel MIMO antenna systems are disposed within a dielectric substrate area of 50×100 mm2.

  • Patent number: 8783242
Abstract: A charcoal grill includes a base for holding charcoal, support legs, and a lid mounted to the base. A metal band, having an opening formed therein, encircles the base. A box is secured to the metal band in registration with the metal band opening. The box includes a top wall and an opening formed in the top wall. The box has an open, ram-receiving back end and an open front end in open communication with the metal band opening. A chimney holds charcoal until it is ready to be used. A user inverts the chimney to charge charcoal into the box through the top wall opening. A ram inserted through the back end of the box slides the charcoal into the base through the metal band opening. In this way, charcoal is added to the apparatus when the lid is closed and before a prior charge of charcoal is consumed.

  • Patent number: 8785505
Abstract: The increasing use of nanotechnology in consumer products and medical applications underlies the importance of understanding its potential toxic effects to people and the environment. Herein are described methods and assays to predict and evaluate the cellular effects of nanomaterial exposure. Exposing cells to nanomaterials at cytotoxic doses induces cell cycle arrest and increases apoptosis/necrosis, activates genes involved in cellular transport, metabolism, cell cycle regulation, and stress response. Certain nanomaterials induce genes indicative of a strong immune and inflammatory response within skin fibroblasts. Furthermore, the described multiwall carbon nanoonions (MWCNOs) can be used as a therapeutic in the treatment of cancer due to its cytotoxicity.
