Abstract: A method of manufacturing cyclic carbonate comprises a step of “preparation,” by preparing an ionic liquid polymer; and a step of “cyclization,” by feeding carbon dioxide and epoxide into a reactor containing the ionic liquid polymer to conduct a cyclization of the carbon dioxide and the epoxide in a batch or continuous reaction manner under the catalysis of the ionic liquid polymer, and finally to produce cyclic carbonate.
Abstract: In cooperative sensing in which a plurality of cognitive radio apparatus collaboratively exchange sensing information on a status of frequency band usage as a secondary system, the sensing information is efficiently exchanged in the secondary system without influencing communication of the primary system. In a radio communication system according to this invention, a first radio communication device includes means for observing a surrounding radio communication environment, means for converting information obtained by the observation into a parameter used for radio communication, and means for performing transmission by using the parameter, and a second radio communication device includes means for receiving a signal transmitted from the first radio communication device and means for extracting, from the received signal, information on the surrounding radio communication environment that is observed on a transmission side.

Abstract: A magnetic, selectively permeable metabolite transfer disk for the cell-free transfer of metabolites and other molecules produced by microbial colonies is described. The metabolite transfer disk is comprised of at least three layers including: (1) an adhesion layer; (2) a gel layer comprising agar or other cushioning gel matrix; and (3) a bottom surface comprising one or more fluid-permeable filters of variable pore size to enable the diffusion of small molecules into the gel while blocking passage of cells. A diagnostic transfer disk is also described that can be used for biochemical and microbial characterization. The diagnostic transfer disk is similar to the metabolite transfer disk with the added benefit of the top layer being transparent and indicator reagents being added to the disk for microbial characterization.
Abstract: Provided are time-of-flight positron emission tomography devices comprising a detector array having at least two segments configured to accommodate a body part and to acquire tracer emission signals from a target within an imaging situs with a timing resolution of less than about 600 ps and a processor that receives the acquired signals from the detector array and converts the signals into a three dimensional image reconstruction of the target.

Abstract: A light source device repeatedly implements a first state and a second state in alternate shifts. The energy of a standing wave generated in a cavity resonator is absorbed by a rare gas or the like existing in a hollow member. This implements the first state in which plasma is generated and the electron temperature thereof is increased, and then the extreme ultraviolet light emitted from the plasma is emitted out of the cavity resonator through a window. The supply of the electromagnetic wave to the cavity resonator is interrupted. This implements the second state in which the plasma is extinguished.

Abstract: A method for producing methanol from a methane source such as methane from natural (shale) gas by first reacting one equivalent of methane with oxygen from the air to result in complete combustion to produce carbon dioxide and water in a molar ratio of 1:2; then conducting a bi-reforming process with a mixture of methane:carbon dioxide:water having a ratio of 3:1:2 to produce metgas, a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide having a molar ratio of 2:1 to 2.1:1; and finally converting metgas exclusively to methanol. The thus produced methanol can be dehydrated to form dimethyl ether, with water produced being recycled back to the bi-reforming process, if necessary.
