Abstract: In a coordination-free rendezvous method for a communication network, time is divided into superslots with each superslot being further divided into slots. At least one first-class slot and at least one second-class slot are selected out of the slots of each superslot. The relative position between the first-class slot and the second-class slot is changed every superslot, thereby the first-class slots or the second-class slots between or among devices of the communication network may overlap each other in a periodic manner.
Abstract: A chaotic cryptographic technique for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based wireless/wired communication systems is implemented with an OFDM symbol structure based on symmetric key cryptography. At the receiver side, data detection becomes infeasible without knowledge of the secret key. Without the knowledge of the key, the signal will be a noise-like signal. The computational power required to implement the technique is very low, rendering the system an attractive option for high data rate communications based on OFDM technology. The system security is proportional to (L×N)! where N is the number of subcarriers in the OFDM system and L is the number of OFDM symbols involved in the encryption process. For OFDM applications where ?256, L may be set to 1 and breaking the system would require N! exhaustive-search trials. In the case that N<256, L may be increased.

Abstract: A cantilever beam structural resonant-type integrated optical waveguide accelerometer, includes an input waveguide (1), a dissymmetrical structural Mach-Zehnder interferometer (2), a micro-mechanical vibration cantilever beam (3), a short curved waveguide (4) and an output waveguide (5); all the waveguide structures and the cantilever beam use the integrated optical micromachining technique, and the device single-scale integration can be realized by using the temperature-insensitive organic polymer optical waveguide structure and the organic polymer substrate, the key technique indexes such as detection sensitivity, dynamic range are extensively adjusted. The phase difference of the optical signal can be measured by detecting the optical intensity of the resonant frequency of the optical circuit so as to achieve high sensitive acceleration detection, and to be free from the effect of the ambient temperature disturbance and waveguide birefringence.

Abstract: The present invention provides a microfabricated microphone that can mitigate negative effects caused by residual stress in its sensing diaphragm. In particular, a center-supported diaphragm is provided to allow residual stress to relax through the radial expansion or contraction of the diaphragm. The diaphragm is suspended by an anchor that is attached to a supporting beam. The supporting beam is situated in between one or more sections of a back-plate electrode. The supporting beam is mechanically and electrically separated from the back-plate electrode. Various mechanical dimensions of the aforementioned components are also disclosed to optimize performance of a microfabricated microphone in different operational conditions. Further, a method and system for fabricating a microfabricated microphone with a center-supported diaphragm is also disclosed.

Specifically disclosed is a sustained drug delivery system in which an implant is implanted into a body, wherein the implant is a PEG capsule comprising a box-shaped PEG and a porous PEG sheet.
Abstract: Provided are efficient, cost-effective and water tolerant methods (e.g., single-vial methods) for preparing fatty acid esters from organic matter, including: obtaining organic matter having at least one fat substituent, contacting the organic matter in a reaction mixture with a basic solution under conditions suitable to provide for hydrolytic release of monomeric fatty acids from the at least one fat substituent to provide a base-treated reaction mixture, and esterifying the monomeric fatty acids of the base-treated reaction mixture by acidification of the reaction mixture and treating in the presence of an organic alcohol to provide fatty acid esters. The methods optionally further include, prior to esterifying, neutralizing the base-treated reaction mixture to provide for neutralized fatty acids, separating the neutralized fatty acids from the neutralized reaction mixture, and dissolving the separated fatty acids in the esterification reaction mixture.

Abstract: The present invention provides electronic methods and apparatus for interactively authoring, sharing and analyzing digital video content. Methods for authoring include displaying visual data, defining each traversal as a time-based sequence of frames and annotating and storing a record of the traversal and its associated audio records. Defining the traversal includes interactively panning the visual data by positioning an overlay window relative to the visual data and zooming in or out by resizing the overlay window. In alternative embodiments, the visual data may be displayed in a rectangular layout or a cylindrical layout. The methods are practiced using an integrated graphical interface, including an overview region displaying the visual data, a detail region displaying current data within the overlay window, and a worksheet region displaying a list of previously stored annotated traversal records.
