Abstract: Follicular thyroid adenoma (FTA) is distinguished from follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) by comparing amount of an expression product of at least one gene selected from the group consisting of DDIT3, ARG2, ITM1, C1orf24, TARSH, and ACO1 in a test follicular thyroid specimen to a normal control thyroid specimen. The test follicular thyroid specimen is identified as FTA if the amount of expression product of TARSH is equal to or greater in the test follicular thyroid specimen than in the normal control thyroid specimen. The test follicular thyroid specimen is identified as FTC if the amount of expression product of DDIT3, ARG2, ITM1, C1orf24, or ACO1 is greater in the test follicular thyroid specimen than in the normal control thyroid specimen.

Abstract: A method of treating a central nervous system (CNS) disorder, comprises the steps of inserting into a patient's body first and second conduits so that distal ends of the first and second conduits open to a portion of the patient's CNS with direct access to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and a proximal end of the first conduit opens into a first reservoir of material to be introduced into the CSF and a proximal end of the second conduit opens to drain CSF withdrawn from the CNS in combination with the steps of detecting and analyzing brain activity of a patient and determining a chemical imbalance present in the CSF by one of a microassay of a sample of CSF withdrawn from the second reservoir and the detected and analyzed brain activity. Based on the determined chemical imbalance, the patient is treated by one of supplying an agent to the CSF via the first conduit and withdrawing a quantity CSF via the second conduit.
Abstract: An image interpolating method and apparatus, in which horizontal and vertical Differences of Absolute Inter-channel Differences (DAIDs) are calculated from a color filter array (CFA) image, and an unknown pixel is interpolated in horizontal and vertical directions estimated in consideration of the DAIDs of R, G, and B pixels. Therefore, the image interpolating method and apparatus provide a large Peak Signal and Noise Ratio (PSNR), a Structural Similarity (SSIM), and high visual quality images.

Abstract: Disclosed is a designed and implemented 12-bit 70 Msps pipeline analog-to-digital converter. Two adjacent blocks operate at opposite clock phases to reduce the chip size and power consumption. Since the opposite clock phases are designed to be provided by external devices, the timing between these two clock phases must be accurate. Note that the architecture of pipeline ADC consists of four stages, divided into two groups, wherein two adjacent stages in each group share one 3-bit flash ADC, hence only two 3-bit flash ADCs are required in this scheme. Therefore, there are 6-bit signal produced from each 3-bit flash ADC within one clock phase which consists of two opposite clock phases. And within the same period, the total output of the pipeline analog-to-digital converter would be 12-bit. From the simulation results, when the sampling rate is 70 Msps, this converter consumes 155 mW (TBV) at a ±1.8 V supply.
Abstract: A lane departure warning method and system thereof are provided. First a driver model is established, wherein the driver model is established according to a lateral position error of a vehicle being driven and a steering angle generated by a driver for controlling the vehicle. Next, a system identification process is performed on the lateral position error and the steering angle, so as to obtain specific information of the driver model. An estimation process is performed on the specific information and a plurality of raw statistical data, so as to obtain a time to lane crossing (TLC). A decision process is performed on the TLC and a driver drowsiness index, so as to obtain a lane departure warning strategy.

Abstract: Provided is a tag identification method in an RFID system. A tag identification method generates a query tree according to a query and a response between an RFID reader and a tag to identify the tag. In the method, a query message is transmitted from the RFID reader to the tag. A response message for the query message is received from the tag. Herein, the query tree is generated in the reverse order of a string owned by the tag. The query tree is generated in the reverse order of the tag IDs in the query tree-based protocol to reduce the frequency of collisions between the tags, thereby making it possible to reduce the time taken to identify all the tags within the recognizable range of the RFID reader.

Abstract: Novel stable, concentrated, biologically active and ready-to-use lipid-comprising drug delivery complexes and methods for their production are described. The biological activity of the complexes produced are comparable to the formulations prepared according to the prior art admixture method and upon purification, the complexes produced by the method of this invention are 50 to 500 fold more concentrated than the complexes formed by admixture. The method described herein provides for the large scale production of lipid-comprising drug delivery systems useful for gene therapy and other applications.
Abstract: A method and corresponding system for providing a uniform nanowire array including uniform nanowires composed of at least three elements is presented. An embodiment of the method includes growing an array of two-element nanowires, and thereafter uniformly doping or alloying each two-element nanowire, with respect to each other two-element nanowire, with at least one doping or alloying element through a wet chemical synthesis with a precursor solution, to produce the uniform array of nanowires composed of at least three elements. The two-element nanowire can include Zn and O, and the at least one doping or alloying element can be Mg, Cd, Mn, Cu, Be, Fe, and Co. Applications of the three-element nanowire array include solar cells and light emitting diodes with improved efficiencies over existing technologies.
