Abstract: The present invention provides a method for detecting synthetic indole and indazole cannabinoids in a sample known or suspected to contain a synthetic indole or indazole cannabinoid. A deuterated solvent is added to the solid sample, creating a suspension. The suspension is mixed to release the cannabinoid from the solid sample. The suspension is subject to a NMR spectroscopy process to produce a sample NMR spectrum. The synthetic cannabinoid is detected in the suspension by analysis of the sample NMR spectrum. When one-dimensional proton NMR is used, detection of a first peak between 8.00 and 8.50 ppm and a second peak between 4.00 and 4.40 ppm, indicates the presence of a synthetic indole or indazole cannabinoid. When two-dimensional Correlation Spectroscopy (COSY) NMR is used, detection of a first spot between 6.50 and 9.00 ppm and a second spot between 1.50 and 4.50 ppm indicates the presence of a synthetic indole or indazole cannabinoid.

Abstract: An audio metadata providing apparatus and method and a multichannel audio data playback apparatus and method to support a dynamic format conversion are provided. Dynamic format conversion information may include information about a plurality of format conversion schemes that are used to convert a first format set by an author of multichannel audio data into a second format that is based on a playback environment of the multichannel audio data and that are each set for corresponding playback periods of the multichannel audio data. The audio metadata providing apparatus may provide audio metadata including the dynamic format conversion information. The multichannel audio data playback apparatus may identify the dynamic format conversion information from the audio metadata, may convert the first format of the multichannel audio data into the second format based on the identified dynamic format conversion information, and may play back the multichannel audio data in the second format.

Abstract: The invention described herein relates to colloidal particles useful for photoacoustic imaging. The particles comprise a photoacoustic imaging agent with an absorbance maximum or plateau in the range of wavelengths 700-1100 nm. The imaging agent also displays low optical absorbance at some wavelength in the range 700-1100 nm. This combination of high and low optical absorbance enables background subtraction in photoacoustic imaging applications. The imaging agent is an organic compound having low aqueous solubility so that it is stably encapsulated in the hydrophobic core of the particle. The particle is stabilized by a polymeric surface coating, and the polymeric stabilizing layer on the surface of the particle may contain targeting ligands for targeted diagnostics or therapeutic delivery. The particle core may also contain therapeutic agents or other imaging agents.

Abstract: It has been discovered that the Sal target represents a new and promising target for antibacterial drug discovery. The Sal target is distinct from the rifamycin target and from the CBR703 target. This indicates that antibacterial compounds that function through the Sal target should exhibit no, or minimal, cross-resistance with rifamycins and CBR703. This further implies that it should be possible to co-administer antibacterial compounds that function through the Sal target together with a rifamycin, together with CBR703, or together with both a rifamycin and CBR703, in order to achieve additive or synergistic antibacterial effects and in order to suppress or eliminate the emergence of resistance.

Abstract: A system for tracking drugs during a transfer and administering process is configured to reduce labeling errors that can occur during that process. The system includes a storage container reader configured to read a set of one or more storage-container-associated machine-readable indicia positioned on a container containing a drug. The set of one or more storage-container-associated machine-readable indicia identifies the drug. The system further includes, at the point of care of a patient, an indicia-generating device configured to generate machine readable drug-delivery-container-associated indicia identifying the drug based on the storage-container-associated machine-readable indicia. A drug delivery container reader, also located at the point of care, is configured to read both sets of machine readable indicia to verify that the drug delivery container has been correctly labelled. A method implemented by the system results in the reduction in labeling errors.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a selectable-rate spring comprises a flexure bar connected to a rotatable shaft, the flexure bar having at least one arched portion. The selectable-rate spring also includes at least one rotational contactor connectable to a link member, wherein the rotational contactor rotates about an axis while maintaining contact with the arched portion of the flexure bar. As the rotational contactor rotates, it changes the connection stiffness between the rotatable shaft and the link member.
Abstract: According to embodiments of the present invention are a system and method that use projected structured patterns of light and linear optical sensors for motion tracking. Sensors are capable of recovering two-dimensional location within the projection area, while several sensors can be combined for up to six degrees of freedom tracking. The structure patterns are based on m-sequences, in which any consecutive subsequence of m bits is unique. Both digital and static light sources can be used. The system and method of the present invention enables high-speed, high precision, and low-cost motion tracking for a wide range of applications.

Abstract: The presently disclosed subject matter demonstrates that ThnG and ThnQ enzymes encoded by the thienamycin gene cluster in Streptomyces cattleya oxidize the C-2 and C-6 moieties of carbapenems, respectively. ThnQ stereospecifically hydroxylates PS-5 giving N-acetyl thienamycin. ThnG catalyzes sequential desaturation and sulfoxidation of PS-5, giving PS-7 and its sulfoxide. The ThnG and ThnQ enzymes are relatively substrate selective, but give rise to the oxidative diversity of carbapenems produced by S. cattleya, and orthologues likely function similarly in allied streptomyces.
