  • Patent number: 9264858
Abstract: This invention concerns a process and a system for providing location information for a wireless unit in a wireless network to a location-based service provider, using a data network. In particular, the location information is provided to the location-based service provider without necessarily providing the identity of wireless unit, e.g., a subscriber's wireless identification number, to the service provider. In this regard, a subscriber's identification number may be hidden from the positioning service provider via a process in which an alias is used instead of the subscriber's normal identity. The subscriber's number may further be concealed from the service provider via a process wherein encrypted information is used instead of the subscriber's normal identity.

  • Patent number: 9246844
Abstract: A system, apparatus, and method for controlling the operation of a service in a client device. The invention uses an existing protocol which is used for communications between an application resident in the device and a remote server to convey information about the service to the application. The information may be relevant to a service specific function, such as configuration or provisioning, or an activation or de-activation instruction, for example. The application receives the service related information, processes the information and then provides the information to the service via a notification channel. The service related information may be incorporated into a message sent from the remote server to the client device by using an element of the protocol, for example, by appending a text string to a header.

  • Patent number: 9226244
Abstract: A user equipment is provided for a telecommunications system comprising at least a first radio base station. The user equipment controls its transmission power to a first value for a first set of one or more signals sent over a physical channel between the user equipment and the first radio base station, and to a second value for a second set of one or more signals sent over the physical channel between the user equipment and the first radio base station. The first value and said second value are different. In alternative embodiments, the second set of signals are transmitted taking into account information from the serving cell and a neighboring cell, while the first set of signals are transmitted taking into account information from the serving cell only.

Abstract: According to a first embodiment of the invention, if an e-mail sender attempts to make too many connections within a predetermined period of time, the excess connections are automatically rejected. According to a second embodiment of the invention, an agreement is established between an e-mail sender and an e-mail recipient that states when the sender may send e-mail messages to the recipient. According to a third embodiment of the invention, trend data reflecting an amount of e-mail sent by a sender is collected. The trend data can be used to establish a rate limit for the sender. According to a fourth embodiment of the invention, separate rate limits are established for authenticated and unauthenticated mail from addresses. According to a fifth embodiment of the invention, a sender may have a rate at which their e-mail is transmitted reduced if they exceed predetermined rate limits.

  • Patent number: 9155025
Abstract: Technology for method for reducing the number of unsuccessful service change attempts of a first mobile terminal is presented. The first mobile terminal is connectable via a mobile network to a further terminal by establishing a call connection for providing a first service or by establishing a call connection for providing a second service. The first mobile terminal receives a first indication signal indicating that a service change to the second service is temporarily unavailable from a mobile network node administrating an established call connection for providing the first service. In response to receiving the first indication signal, the first mobile terminal refrains from requesting a service change to the second service until reception of a further indication signal from the mobile network node indicating that a service change is available again.

  • Patent number: 9137635
Abstract: A group of wireless device users are notified of an event. A location data determination algorithm is provided to a wireless device, where the algorithm determines a frequency at which the device interacts with network elements to determine its location. The location data is stored in a notification server and used to identify a user at a specific location. When a governmental or commercial entity wishes to issue a notification, a message is provided to those users whose location is identified as being in an area defined by the entity.

  • Patent number: 9130706
Abstract: A wireless communication receiver receiving a multiplexed signal comprising two or more signal streams calculates a received signal quality for the multiplexed signal as a function of stream-specific received signal qualities, determines one or more loss parameters indicative of variations in the stream-specific received signal qualities, and generates quality feedback based on such information. In turn, a transmitter controls the selection of one or more transmission parameters of the multiplexed signal based on the quality feedback, such that its transmit link adaptations account for the losses in received signal quality at the receiver arising from the variations in the stream-specific received signal qualities. The quality feedback may include calculated loss values, or parameter/penalties that permit loss calculation, and the method applies to both code multiplexing and spatial multiplexing.

  • Patent number: 9118521
Abstract: A network node including a first Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) protocol instance providing redundancy of an SCTP endpoint. The first SCTP protocol instance connects to a peer SCTP protocol instance via an SCTP connection. The first SCTP protocol instance also connects to a further SCTP protocol instance providing redundancy of the SCTP endpoint via a consistency protocol for providing state consistency between the first SCTP protocol instance and the further SCTP protocol instance. The first SCTP protocol instance also connects to the further SCTP protocol instance via a connection for forwarding messages addressed to the further SCTP protocol instance to be processed by the first SCTP protocol instance or vice versa.

  • Patent number: 9072019
Abstract: The technology involves data processing during intra-site handover procedures. At least two directional antennas of a base station receive data carrying signals originating from a mobile units positioned in an intra-site handover area defined by the overlapping radio coverage of the antennas. The directional antennas performs an initial data signal detection of the received data signals resulting in detected data, which typically results in a loss of radio performance of the antenna. The detected data from the directional antennas is then processed to generate processed data. The performance loss is compensated by providing differential antenna gain of the directional antennas within the handover area.

  • Patent number: 9066215
Abstract: A technique is provided for use by a user terminal or mobile services switching center (MSC) for responding to a request to switch an on-going call from speech mode to multimedia mode within a wireless communication network configured to automatically disconnect a call if a requested mode switch is not confirmed within a predetermined period of time specified by a call drop timer. In one example, the terminal or MSC activates an automatic response timer upon receipt of a request from a user to switch an on-going call from speech to multimedia, with the timer set shorter than the call drop timer. The user receiving the request is then prompted to accept or decline the request. If no response is received before expiration of the automatic response timer, the terminal or MSC automatically declines the request on behalf of the user so that the call drop timer does not expire.
