  • Patent number: 6394176
Abstract: A motor vehicle combined heat exchanger has a tube bank linked to two manifolds and divided into an oil cooler having tubes for oil, and a condenser having tubes for a cooling fluid. The two types of tubes are different and possess respective hydraulic diameters related by the following inequality: 0.8 mm2≦DHa×DHb≦3.00 mm2 where the hydraulic diameter (DH) of a tube is defined by the formula DH=4S/P, in which S designates the area of the internal cross-section of the tube (expressed in mm2) and P the internal perimeter, or “wet perimeter”, of the tube (expressed in mm).

  • Patent number: 6390186
Abstract: Heat exchanger for recovering heat from the exhaust gases of a motor vehicle, in which the exhaust gases circulate between two manifolds delimited by respective caps and by the end walls of a cylindrical casing, passing in tubes which are elongated in the axial direction in the casing. The caps are produced by stamping from a thin sheet metal, which leads to a reduction in weight and in cost and allows the caps to remain fitted snugly by elasticity on the ends of the casing, until brazed.

  • Patent number: 6390187
Abstract: A heat exchanger (2) with flexible tubes (20), particularly for a motor vehicle cooling installation. The tubes (20), for example made of a plastic material, are designed to carry a heat-exchanging fluid capable of co-operating with an air stream circulating through the exchanger (2). The inventive exchanger (2) comprises means for maintaining the tubes (20) in parallel rows. The tubes (20) are designed to be generally shaped like substantially sinusoidal lines. The sinusoids of two contacting tubes (211, 212) of two consecutive rows, are phase offset relatively to each other such that the two tubes (211, 212) are maintained in two contact zones (210) per sinusoid interval, thereby leaving interstices between the tubes (20) to enhance the penetration of the flux.

  • Patent number: 6308410
Abstract: The partitions are inserted through an open end of the cylindrical tubular wall of the fluid box, positioned and immobilised by means of deformations in the tubular wall, before the tubes are inserted and the assembly is soldered in a fluidtight manner. According to the invention, the deformations are localised on the outside of the region of the perimeter of the tubular wall on which the passage openings for the tubes extend, so as not to affect these openings. The method may be used in a condenser for a motor vehicle air conditioning unit.

  • Patent number: 6230533
Abstract: A folded tube for a motor vehicle heat exchanger, is made from a metal strip folded on itself so as to form two parallel channels separated by a spacer. The spacer results from the joining of two borders of the strip each being folded at right angles towards the inside of the tube from an outer face. Each of the borders is folded at right angles with respect to the outer face, forming a folded outer edge, and includes a protruding swelling which extends at least on the same side as the outer face of the strip. The invention makes it possible to produce a tube having flat large faces, the continuity of which is assured in the regions close to the spacer and which contributes to better holding of corrugated spacers in the heat exchanger.
