Abstract: A method of measuring a rotational position of an assembly with circumferential ferromagnetic teeth includes applying an excitation signal for a cycle to an actuator, the cycle causing a first rotational displacement of a first ferromagnetic tooth from a first rotational position to a second rotational position and a second rotational displacement of a second ferromagnetic tooth from the second rotational position to a third rotational position. The method further includes measuring a plurality of first signal outputs from a magnetoresistive sensor during the cycle; determining one or more signal offset values based on the plurality of first signal outputs; applying the signal excitation for a portion of a second cycle to the actuator; measuring second signal outputs from the magnetoresistive sensor; generating corrected signals by modifying the second signal outputs with the signal offset values; and, based on the corrected signals, determining a rotational position of the assembly.

  • Patent number: 11291859
Abstract: Information that describes a target inside a patient to be treated with radiation is accessed from computer system memory. An arrangement of spots inside the target is determined. Each the spots corresponds to a location inside the target where a respective beam of radiation is to be directed during radiation treatment of the patient. A dose rate for each of the beams is determined. The dose rate for each beam is a dose delivered in less than one second to a spot corresponding to that beam. For example, each beam can deliver at least four grays (GY) in less than one second, and may deliver as much as 20 Gy to 50 Gy or 100 Gy or more in less than one second. A radiation treatment plan, that includes the arrangement of the spots and the dose rate for each of the beams, is stored in computer system memory.

  • Patent number: 11282221
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and system for training artificial intelligence models configured to execute image segmentation techniques. The methods and system describe a server that receives a first image including a set of pixels depicting multiple objects. The server also receives a second image having a second set of pixels depicting the same set of objects. The server then analyzes the pixels from the first and second images. When a difference between at least one visual attribute of a pixel within the second image and a corresponding pixel within the first image satisfies a predetermined threshold, it will be encoded as spikes to send to the model, the model will be trained using supervised STDP rule by revising weights associated with the nodes within the AI model where the node corresponds to the pixels within the first and/or the second image.

  • Patent number: 11278739
Abstract: A motion-enable device includes a mechanical switch and a capacitive sensor with a sensing region that is located adjacent to the mechanical switch. The mechanical switch enables a first signal when closed or actuated that indicates that the mechanical switch is in an active state. The capacitive sensor enables a second signal when a conductive object is disposed in the sensing region, where the second signal indicates that the capacitive sensor is in an active state. Enablement of operation of an apparatus depends on receipt of both the first signal and the second signal. The mechanical switch and the capacitive sensor act as the two separate switches required by functional safety requirements for a motion enable device. Because the sensing region of the capacitive sensor is adjacent to the mechanical switch, the first and second signals are generated when an operator actuates the mechanical switch with a single digit.

  • Patent number: 11266856
Abstract: A radiation therapy system includes a treatment couch positioning assembly that is directly coupled to a fixed structure supporting the linear accelerator of the radiation therapy system. The radiation therapy system can be installed in a radiation therapy facility without the floor of the facility being excavated and a sub-floor structure, such as a base frame, being installed. To laterally position a patient relative to the linear accelerator, the treatment couch positioning assembly of the radiation therapy system is laterally translated via a linear motor, and laterally translates with the treatment couch, rather than cantilevering the treatment couch to either side of the couch positioning assembly.

  • Patent number: 11213266
Abstract: A system can have an x-ray source that generates a series of individual x-ray pulses for multi-energy imaging. A first x-ray pulse can have a first energy level and a subsequent second x-ray pulse in the series can have a second energy level different from the first energy level. An x-ray imager can receive the x-rays from the x-ray source and can detect the received x-rays for image generation. A generator interface box (GIB) controls the x-ray source to provide the series of individual x-ray pulses and synchronizes detection by the x-ray imager with generation of the individual x-ray pulses. The GIB can control x-ray pulse generation and synchronization to optimize image generation while minimizing unnecessary x-ray irradiation.

  • Publication number: 20210353964
Abstract: Time-domain interleaving of treatment X-rays and imaging X-rays during an image guided radiation therapy (IGRT) process in a radiation therapy system prevents scatter of the treatment X-rays from degrading the quality of X-ray images used to generate volumetric image data of a target volume. Imaging X-rays are delivered to the target volume during one or more imaging intervals, and one or more pulses of treatment X-rays are delivered to the target volume between the imaging intervals. In instances in which a pulse of treatment X-rays is timed to occur during an imaging interval, the pulse of treatment X-rays is inhibited from occurring during the imaging interval and is rescheduled to occur at a later time that does not coincide with that imaging interval or subsequent imaging intervals.

  • Patent number: 11173324
Abstract: Reconstruction of projection images of a CBCT scan is performed by generating simulated projection data, comparing the simulated projection data to the projection images of the CBCT scan, determining a residual volume based on the comparison, and using the residual volume to determine an accurate reconstructed volume. The reconstructed volume can be used to segment a tumor (and potentially one or more organs) and align the tumor to a planning volume (e.g., from a CT scan) to identify changes, such as shape of the tumor and proximity of the tumor to an organ. These changes can be used to update a radiation therapy procedure, such as by altering a radiation treatment plan and fine-tuning a patient position.
