  • Patent number: 10926103
Abstract: An energy degrading device for attenuating energy of a particle beam with reduced emittance growth. An energy degrader comprises an emittance control material that can preferentially scatter the beam particles that is incident on a surface with a shallow angle. In one approach, the energy degrader may include alternating layers of a low-Z and a high-Z material, wherein the low Z material serves to attenuate energy of the beam particles by virtue of scattering and the high Z material serves to suppress the emittance increase by scattering back the beam particles toward the beam axis. In another approach, the energy degrader may be composed of carbon nanotubes or a material with oriented crystalline structure that is substantially orientated in the incident direction of the particle beam. The carbon nanotubes may serve to preferentially scatter beam particles towards the central beam axis as well as attenuate energy thereof.

  • Patent number: 10910188
Abstract: Presented systems and methods facilitate efficient and effective generation and delivery of radiation. A radiation generation system can comprise: a particle beam gun, a high energy dissipation anode target (HEDAT); and a liquid anode control component. In some embodiments, the particle beam gun generates an electron beam. The HEDAT includes a solid anode portion (HEDAT-SAP) and a liquid anode portion (HEDAT-LAP) that are configured to receive the electron beam, absorb energy from the electron beam, generate a radiation beam, and dissipate heat. The radiation beam can include photons that can have radiation characteristics (e.g., X-ray wavelength, ionizing capability, etc.). The liquid anode control component can control a liquid anode flow to the HEDAT. The HEDAT-SAP and HEDAT-LAP can cooperatively operate in radiation generation and their configuration can be selected based upon contribution of respective HEDAT-SAP and the HEDAT-LAP characteristics to radiation generation.

  • Patent number: 10898158
Abstract: A phantom setup and source-to-surface distance (SSD) verification method uses radiation images. In an exemplary method, a phantom is positioned on a support relative to a radiation source such that a surface of the phantom is horizontally leveled at or approximate to a desired value of SSD. The radiation source is then positioned at a gantry angle predetermined at least based on the desired value of SSD such that a ray of radiation from the radiation source aligns with a horizontal surface located at the desired value of SSD. An image is acquired using radiation from the radiation source at the predetermined gantry angle. Verification is performed to confirm, based on an analysis of the image, if the surface of the phantom is positioned at the desired value of SSD.
