Patents Assigned to Ventria Bioscience
  • Patent number: 7138150
Abstract: This invention concerns a method of making an anti-infective composition for oral administration using an agent selected from the group consisting of lactoferrin protein and lysozyme protein. The method comprises three steps. The nucleic acid, which encodes a lactoferrin or lysozyme protein, is expressed in a monocot seed. The protein is isolated from the seed. This protein isolation compromises greater than 3% of the total soluble protein in the monocot seed. The protein is then formulated for oral administration.

  • Patent number: 6781044
Abstract: A plant transformation vector for transforming host plant cells with a chimeric selectable marker gene is disclosed. The gene includes, operatively linked in sequence in a 5′ to 3′ direction, (i) a DNA promoter sequence from the rice beta-glucanase 9 (gns9) gene; (ii) a selectable marker gene, and (iii) a 3′ untranslated terminator region. Also disclosed are a vector pair containing the transformation vector, a method of obtaining transformed monocots whose seeds produce a selected heterologous protein during sed germination, and a plant whose cells are transformed with the chimeric selectable marker gene.

  • Publication number: 20040111766
Abstract: The invention is directed to seed and seed extract compositions containing levels of a human milk protein between 3-40% or higher of the total protein weight of the soluble protein extractable from the seed. Also disclosed is a method of producing the seed with high levels of extractable human milk protein. The method includes transforming a monocotyledonous plant with a chimeric gene having a protein-coding sequence encoding a protein normally present in human milk under the control of a seed maturation-specific promoter. The method may further includes a leader DNA sequence encoding a monocot seed-specific transit sequence capable to target a linked milk protein to a storage body.
