Abstract: A method for processing a call is provided. The method includes receiving an inbound call leg via a network device. The inbound call leg is processed using an interactive voice response (IVR) device, and an outbound call leg is generated based on processing the inbound call leg. The outbound call leg is made available to the network device. The inbound call leg and the outbound call leg are handed off from the IVR device to the network device.

Abstract: An operational support system includes a data collection unit and a number of network devices that are associated with various telecommunications services. The data collection unit retrieves raw data records from the network elements and identifies information in the raw data records that is relevant for billing purposes. The data collection unit normalizes the raw data records to create a billable record. The billable record may then be passed to a rating or billing unit that determines the charges associated with a customer's use of the telecommunications services.

Abstract: A method provides call pickup in a communications network. The method includes initiating a call from a first device to a second device. The call is initiated over one or more networks, where at least one of the one or more networks includes a data network. The method further includes storing information relating to the call initiation between the first device and the second device, receiving a message from a third device during the call initiation, where the message includes a call pickup indication, retrieving the information relating to the call initiation between the first device and the second device, and establishing a call between the first device and the third device based on the retrieved information.

Abstract: A method for communicating from an integration platform to a profile management server includes receiving user-entered information at the integration platform. The integration platform generates an event based on the user-entered information and publishes the event on a channel subscribed to by a connector associated with the server. The connector receives the event information, transforms the event information to a format compatible with the server and establishes communications with the server via hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP). The connector downloads the information to the server and the server updates its database. The connector may also determine whether at least one other system received the event information before downloading the information to the server.

Abstract: An approach provides interdomain traversal to support packetized voice transmissions. A request is received and specifies a directory number for establishing a communication session from a first endpoint to a second endpoint. The first endpoint is behind a first network address translator of a first domain, and the second endpoint is within a second domain. A service provider network is accessed to determine a network address for communicating with the second endpoint based on the directory number, to determine existence of a second network address translator within the second domain, and to establish, if the network address can be determined, a media path between the first endpoint and the second endpoint based on the network address to support the communication session. An encrypted session is established with a proxy server according to a cryptographic protocol to support the media path. The proxy server resides within the second domain.

Abstract: In a network access system including an external processor and a programmable access device, the external processor transmits a control message to the programmable access device to establish a configuration of the programmable access device. The programmable access device then communicates messages to the external processor for service processing in accordance with the configuration. For example, the control message may be a filter control message that establishes a configuration of a packet header filter in the programmable access device. The packet header filter then communicates network messages filtered from a packet flow in accordance with the configuration established by the control message. To limit the communication of network messages from the programmable access device to the external processor, the external processor can send a message setting message interface flags in the programmable access device.

Abstract: A programmable access device for use in a network access system includes first and second network interfaces through which packets are communicated with a network, a forwarding table utilized to route packets communicated between the first and second network interfaces, and a packet header filter. The packet header filter identifies messages received at one of the first and second network interfaces on which policy-based services are to be implemented and passes identified messages via a message interface to an external processor for processing. In preferred embodiments, the packet header filter is capable of filtering packets for service processing based upon protocol information pertaining to protocol layers higher than layer 3.

Abstract: A method of identifying fraud in a telecommunications system, the method including receiving data related to a current call placed from an originating ANI to a terminating ANI, where the received data includes the terminating ANI and a billing number used to place the call. Billing numbers for prior calls to the terminating ANI, if any, and corresponding indicia of the times of the calls are retrieved. A determination is made of whether the number of billing numbers used for the current and prior calls to the terminating ANI over a prior period of time falling within a time interval satisfies a threshold. If the threshold is satisfied, a fraud alert is generated.

The first autonomous network system having a first private IP address space and the at least one second autonomous network system having at least one second private IP address space. The system includes a first routing domain including the first autonomous network system and at least one second routing domain including the at least one second autonomous network system. A geographically diverse linking autonomous system couples the first autonomous network system and the at least one second autonomous network system.

Abstract: A method for predicting an optical fiber performance parameter includes measuring N values for the optical fiber performance parameter at N stages during manufacture or installation of a first optical fiber, where N is an integer. A first set of correlation values is generated representing shifts in the measured optical fiber performance parameter values at the N stages. An installed value of the optical fiber performance parameter is estimated for a second optical fiber based on the first set of generated correlation values and at least one measured optical fiber performance parameter value associated with the second optical fiber.

Abstract: In a SIP network, SIP servers are provisioned with information used to authenticate subscribers and entities that will be placing calls. This information can be used during call establishment to allow or deny calls, as well as to determine the appropriate party to bill if the call involves a charge, such as a long distance charge. In addition to allowing calls between authenticated and trusted entities, there is a need for the SIP server to allow certain kinds of calls that involve non-trusted users or entities. If non-trusted entities where not recognized, trusted users and entities within the SIP network would not be able to receive calls from users or entities not know to the SIP server that is providing them services.

Abstract: An approach is provided for supporting multi-media conferencing. Textual information (e.g., text associated with a presentation) is received for display during a conference session to multiple participants. For a particular participant, configuration information corresponding to the participant specifies language assistance for the textual information. Language assistance involves augmenting the textual information according to the configuration information for comprehension of the textual information by the particular participant. In one embodiment, the augmented textual information includes language translation of the textual information. Additionally, the augmented textual information can encompass definitions of terms, including acronyms. The augmented textual information is forwarded for display to the participant during the conference session.

The emergency contact platform may include a server to receive registration information including a phone number associated with a phone when communication using the phone is impracticable. The server may also be configured to receive an information request identifying the phone number. The emergency contact platform may also include a database to store the received registration information. The server may be also configured to perform a lookup in the database based on the phone number and provide a result of the lookup based on the received information request.
