Patent number: 6113088Abstract: In order to enable quick and easy clamping of a work piece or device to the top of a work bench, the work bench is formed with a plurality of keyhole-like slots which are adapted to receive a threaded shaft and stopper arrangement which extends down from each of a plurality of rocker arm-like clamp members. Each of these clamps is such that a stopper which is provided on the bottom of the threaded shafts, is wider than the width of the slot. Rocker arms, which are connected to the upper ends of the threaded shaft, are each provided with a vertically extending bore through which a threaded shaft extends, and an intersecting lateral bore in which a follower nut which cooperates with the threaded shaft, is received. The lateral bore is formed toward one end of the rocker arm that is adapted to have engagement fingers or members at each end.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1998Date of Patent: September 5, 2000Assignee: Vermont American CorporationInventors: Ved P. Patent number: 6095024Abstract: In order to enable both miters and box joints to be fabricated using the same piece of apparatus, a miter fence is provided with multiple slidable portions or segments which enable a ledge to be projected from a lower edge of one of the fence faces and for a gap, which is consistent with the spacing required between the male pins of a box joint, to be opened up. A tab is provided to enable a work piece to be placed in abutment therewith. This tab can be used as each slot is cut using a dado blade to set the appropriate spacing for the next slot. The ends of the fence are provided with end caps which have a 45.degree. angle. These caps can be removed and switched about so that the fence can be used on either the left and the right hand sides of the saw table.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1998Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Assignee: Vermont American CorporationInventors: David T. Patent number: 5868047Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of insert bits (10) for use with powered screwdrivers. The formed bits (10) may be treated to have a desired microstructure by either an austempering process or by the three step heating, quenching, tempering process. The bits (10) may also be electro-polished. Austempering provides for improved function and increased fatigue life and electro-polishing provides for improved function and increased fatigue life and torque capacity. The bits (10) and may have reduced diameter midportions (30), particularly for use with impact drivers.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 1996Date of Patent: February 9, 1999Assignee: Vermont American CorporationInventors: James A. Patent number: 5458171Abstract: An apparatus for making tenons and mortises includes a table with a first opening in the top surface thereof. The top surface is disposed for receiving a sliding base assembly for a cutting device having a second opening therein. A work-piece holding assembly is detachably connected to a front portion of the table. The table and sliding base assembly cooperate to define the movement of the sliding base assembly in relation to said first opening. The work-piece holding assembly is positionable at preselected angles and varying vertical positions in relation to the top surface of the table.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1994Date of Patent: October 17, 1995Assignee: Vermont American CorporationInventor: Kevin Ward

Patent number: 5435672Abstract: A hole saw having plug ejection feature. Using the arbor and arbor nut of the present invention, the arbor of an ordinary commercially available hole saw is replaced, the arbor nut of the present invention being threaded into the hole saw cup axial threaded inlet, to convert the ordinary hole saw into a plug ejecting hole saw. The arbor and arbor nut of the plug ejecting hole saw of the present invention function as the arbor of an ordinary hole saw when used with to drill the desired hole, the drill turning in a clockwise direction. When the drill rotation is reversed to a counter clockwise direction and the hole saw cup is held stationary, the arbor of the present invention screws through the also stationary arbor nut, thereby ejecting the plug from the hole saw cup.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1994Date of Patent: July 25, 1995Assignee: Vermont American CorporationInventors: Richard L. Patent number: 5433561Abstract: The present invention comprises a wood bit for use in wood working applications. The blade of the bit is generally spade shaped having cutting spurs on each corner of the blade, a central point projecting from the leading end of the blade, and hooked cutting edges.A progressive transfer die is used to bend the leading end of the blade and forge a continuous hook angle extending along the side cutting spur, the lateral shoulder, and the central point of the blade. The forging of a hook extending from each side of the blade converging at a central point provides a hook along the leading end of the blade projecting outwardly (in the direction of rotation) past the plane of the blade face. The leading end of the hook is beveled forming a continuous cutting edge extending along the hook from the outer side wall of the blade through the outside cutting spurs, along the lateral shoulders, and along each side of the central point.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 1994Date of Patent: July 18, 1995Assignee: Vermont American CorporationInventor: Thomas O.
